Hi chaps, I need to buy some ties and want to know what's best to go for. Ive got hilti rings but am thinking of getting more. Just want to know what you're using. Thanks Tony.

Depends on what type of structure your needing to tie into tony, theres a lot of debate due to the ammount of new products on the market.personnally i've kept to rings but use differnt anchors/adapters- if your after more rings-i see your in hampshire, depending on how many you need pop over& you can have a few.

Thanks sp. Since ive been scaffolding hilti rings have been the choice for tieing to the building. I now there are different options. If they're good for you then thats good for me, stick to what you know.

Hi Tony
use to use only hilti rings myself
eventually changed to nylon plugs, now very reluctant to go back
there are also many types of adaptors that you can still use rings on

I'd av given u 10 freegratis m8 tbh lol....how much are you paying for your rubber inserts out of interest

Lads buy the Apollo ties , they are the nuts , I have replaced all our old hilti ties with them over the last year , I pull test them to 7.5 kn without any creep on the tie in brick work .

Hope u gotur tie pull testers qual & ur machines in date phil;)

As goes this year, Hilti ties are not allowed in Brick/Blockwork as they are expansion fixings, and the base material (brick/block) are diverse, and non uniform, ie old brick, new brick, manufacturing defects, some stronger than others. Apollo are universal when used and tested in mortar or substrate, as are nylon/rubber bullets which are re-usable. Apollo are obviously re-usable, not always stated as such. Had a full section on the course I did earlier in the year, i'll try and find the link for the document and post it

Wot a load of bolllocks m8 i think you may be a little confused...i'm a CFA certified installer & proof load tester & i dont know of such a drastic change to the current SWP as well as tg4 .
while its true M16 drop in expanding anchors are not permitted to be used in brickwork they are suitable & the advised fixing for concrete.
there are several types of anchors available to use whilst still using your exhisting stock of hilti rings & reusable rubber inserts are readily available & cost effctive whilst still using your exhisting stock.
Apollo ties, supperties,& excaliber hexibolt brackets (ADI brackets) are an addition to the hilti range - not a replacement to it. The choice of ties, inserts, tie patterns are all determined by the structure your tying and the relevent test loads that are required into the exhisting substructure.
check out Tg 4:11 for more info .

Morning Guys
Hilti Shields have never been acceptable in Brickwork, that does not preclude the ring bolt if a suitable anchor fixing is found.

Around 25 years ago I began the progressive move away from the drop in shield to the rubber inserts but found a couple of problems, the first being they retract far too slowly in the winter and were getting left in the wall.

This lead me to converting the ring bolts by drilling them out and inserting a custom made Excalibur bolt which was only a start really.

Finally moved to the Excalibur type (now also made by Hilti) have not used a ring bolt in over twenty years now other than as for somewhere for my son to chain his bike in the garden.

There's a lot less movement with a self tapping bolt, they leave a much smaller hole, they have a capacity in a lateral direction which a ring does not have, much cheaper.

Nothing wrong with a ring bolt have just managed very well without.

Just a personal preference now
regards
Alan

We went for the excalibur type in the end, using the external hook coupler. Worked brilliantly. Quick and easy to install. Thanks for your input guys.
