Right lads I've had enough of normal day to day scaffolding and need a break from it but looking for a related or poss a different sector I'm just curious in rigging for films/events etc

I've worked for an events company before and loved it I've sent over cvs to gl events, show force and beaver 84 are there anymore about?

As for rigging for films it's not as far fetched as it sounds ( had a mate at pinewood but lost number :( ) does anyone know the best way to go about looking for a start or any advice in general? I'm particularly looking for riggers input as I assume he's done abit lol

Cheers in advanced boys I'm just trying to gather info to see if it's visible or not

Bobby Do Tone Scaffolding Not Do Some Film Work? Also I Think Turner Access Do Some Work For The BBC. Might Be Worth Giving Them A Try Buddy.

bobby i dont think i will be much help to you but i have done a wee bit of scaffolding in the Film and TV sector. Most of it was to hang the rigging and lighting and also some for the sports filming IE FOOTBALL RUGBY ETC.
The rigging side of things is much like scaffoloding in that there are soem who have only ever did specialist work like the film stuff, then you have marine riggers who generally only work on barges and diving vessals or industrial riggers who move plant and pipework. They are all riggers and with a helping hand should adapt to any scenario.STEEL ERECTORS OR RIGGER ERECTORS in my veiw are the real deal and can do the lot but thats just my opinion.
its been quiet on here so i shouldnt really advise looking on face book rigger erectors site(i think thats the name)it may be industrial riggers or along they lines and ask a few questions.
Best of luck but stay with the Scaffs the Grass isnt always greener;)

Yes media structures is the part of the tone group Gerscaff very good outfit by all accounts but a bit in and out with work and yep think a break would make me be glad to come back to it hap by the way lads anyone have rigging tickets??

i have a level 3 in scaffolding and rigging
if you feel you can bluff it try that one bobby.
most riggers will have the ECITB/ACE CARD check the ECITB SITE but i know they are doing the svq/nvq route as well.
feck the rigging why use a crane when you can use a rope and wheel:eek:

Its very much who you know mate. Worked with a bloke who used to work in elstree, brilliant money but very hitty missy. You could try Edwin Shirley staging as well. Best of luck mate.

I have done a bit Bobby. Like happy did some stuff for some events including a stage for the late great Frankie Howerd (ooh err missus) which made a change from putting up scaffolds for the usual comedians.
Also done a fair bit in the Gulf including the world's tallest free standing tower for the Gorillaz if I remember correctly. I actually put the very top mast section on myself the morning after my daughter was born so unforgettable!
Have sent you a PM.

Have you tried
Media structures (Tone)
Acorn Scaffolding
Star Events
RIM Scaffolding
I think Gemini used to do pinewood, but they have gone now

problem with this type of work, is it is seasonal
good hunting

Hello bobby me owd mucker I don't know if this company is still trading I worked for a outfit called kymton walkers which I believe was at Camberwell south east London worked for them on the crucibal theatre in the early 90s and the money was fantastic 5 days take home 600 and that was then but its not all roses pal some shifts are on tight dead lines and you can end up working right through the night to get a set ready for the next day things might have changed my mate works for a company in Sheffield going all over the world for rock bands he is a sad state of affairs with nothing but work ruling his life
all scaffolding comprises of same shyte different day or different company step back take an holiday and have a breather if this is how its making you feel scc

Mad you mention this bob as an episide of foyles war has just been filmed in liverpool and I had a word with the old scaff doing the rigging, they were literally working out of a removals van so all the gear was stowed away, he said its who you know and its a long time working away but good pay and the foods excellent ;)

Hi Bobby, i used to be a ships Rigger in the London docks back in the late 60s a job i loved. Had a couple of mates working in Pinewood who told me you need to get a union card first think it's an Equity card, but think it's a very closed shop these days. Good luck in your quest pal.

I see Bobby is feeling what we have all felt at least once in our lives, the "I gotta get out of this game" feeling,LOL,I have only ever met 1 guy who did studio work and he told me those jobs were like rocking horse sh#t to get,be careful Bobby, the longer you have a break from scaffolding the harder it is to get back into it,I remember a guy years ago threw his belt and spanners over Southwark Bridge one Friday vowing to never scaffold again,he was down Leaches over New Cross the following week buying an whole new set,HA.

I had a stint at pinewood and Shepperton for Gemini, long hours but a good experience. Worked on a tomb raider set and a set for the mummy.

Bobby, done a bit a lavesden studios last year, 10 hour shifts about £270 .you will Need a beutec union card, and be prepaired to slow down and hang about alot. Good work, but very hard to get into.loads going up at leavesden and pinewood studios , give them a ring, good luck.
