Pay rises

Well, I'm not going to hold my breathe on that one. As I remember the same was said last year and we heard nothing more about it.

When do you you think our rates of pay will increase/ in the next 5 yrs or 10 yrs its not good enough. We need it now,The gas, electric, phone, petrol, tax, council tax,all gone up my wages havent need to get out of this country

why not

its time the industry got rid of employment companies and agencies and started paying scaffs through our own scaffolding union or agency, there is way too much corruption among them, it was only last year half a dozen or so large agencies were fined for fixing contracts, all these companies exist on is taking our money and feeding us bull about how bad things are to keep the rate of pay down, their rates are on the whole pretty much the same as most of their contracts were finalised before this recession, the agencies and employers collude with each other, and scaffolding coordinators and managers theyre all on the take, of our backs, in the last century we the workers havent moved forward at all, we should have stuck together and sorted ourselfs a better deal than the one we have now, we are going backwards, the new slaves are arriving on a weekly basis from all over europe and we stand back helpless, who can blame them if we were offered a months wages every week we would be tripping over each other to get there. this forum could be used as a political wedge to get what we want, if only we could knock our heads together and stay together why cant we sort out our own rates of pay i am sure we could compete with these employment companies and agencies for our own benefit and the industries. ?

scrub the whole idea of being employed through an employer they do not want to employ workers direct, it is easier to move workers around and the amount of labour they employ if they use employment companies and agencies, it is too much hassle employing people they have too many rights that is why the industry is moving over too the agencies, they are creaming of our money unions should be moving with the flow and start being more competetive, they could be our employment company instead of trying to get us a pay rise, these employment companies and agencies are charging scaffolding firms 25 pounds an hour for us, there is a lot of margin within that figure and what we get, we the workers could be a lot better off if the unions employed us direct and started moving with the times, employers are fed up with being at loggerheads, at the end of the day we all just want to go to work and get on with it why do you think members are turning away from the union ?

You never see a poor union leader.
They've all got their snouts in the trough with huge salarys and perks whilst encouraging business' to look at alternative ways of employing labour due to their facist principles and absurd demands. It's never the union bosses who lose out but the workers at the sharp end. Look how they've ruined the post office - lazy, mollycoddled 'workers' who demand ridiculious perks and working practices. They now can't compete with their rivals and as a result our post will be delivered by some minimum wage Bosnian within 10 years - No pension or sickness benifit for them - And bloody right too!
Look how so called socialist local and national governments have out-sourced contracts like waste collection, parking enforcement etc, resulting in cheap labour, doing a crap job, with some huge corporation earning mega bucks in profits.
Of course they will always blame the Thatcher government, but they've done nothing to reverse the process, only speed it up by allowing millions of workers to come to this country and drive down wages to a point where the locals can't afford to work for £5.80 an hour.
Having been in the scaffolding industry for the last 18 years, I have simply stuck to my basic principles - Work hard and you shall be rewarded. If an employer takes the piss then I have the option to look for work elsewhere, and/or pursue a grievence through an employement tribunal or mediator like ACAS. I don't go around moaning about some boss who's worked his guts out (and probably re-mortgaged his house) to set up a scaffolding business - and 15 years later finds himself driving a Porsche. Good luck to him I say!
I know what I want in recompence for my sevices and if nobody is prepared to offer me that in my chosen occupation, then I'll go and find another job elsewhere.
I hope David Cameron has the balls to crush the unions just like Thatcher did...but sadly I doubt it.
