Hi there new to form being using Sytem scaffolding now for nearly 10 years solid now

started to develope ringing in the ears and found my hearing not as good as it used to be.

anyone had these problems diiscuss please:wondering:

sounds like tinnitus mate i only used that bang bang stuff for a while it nearly drove me crazy , get it checked out with the doc

My bet Tinnitus
first stop go to your GP,explain your working conditions,he will no doubt refer you to an expert of the ears  pending his report you may have a claim for Industrial Injury

My wife has had it for 10 years, she worked many years in a textile mill as a weaver where noise levels were very high,it is a constant ringing in the ears that can get so loud that she just lays down and cries with the pain.It also effects your balance and you are apt to suffer dizzy spells

There is no known cure for it,

So get your ear plugs in and deafeners on
once contracted you will have it for the rest of your life

Doesent sound nice at all mate

The same effect can be encountered with T&F, tube on tube noise all the time.

I was going to try and claim myself, as my hearing impairment was identified by a Army Doctor. Originaly i was going to claim from the MOD, over 10 year in the TA, (firing weapons).

Then was going to claim as a work related issue. Never bothered my arse though.

Fair enough - where theres blame theres a claim and that ,

I would be very surprised if erecting scaffold would be enough on it's own to cause tinnitus but obviously I'm no doc. I would think it would be more likely that surrounding noise would be a more likely explanation. We all have ear defenders here as part of our normal ppe but really only use them when cleaning the gear. Shouldn't be too hard to find out though, take a noise meter to site and if it's anywhere near 90 decibels (i think)get on the defenders.

I am mate, 32 year on price work. I have to walk downstairs sideways, through my knees, cant lie on my left hand side in bed for my shoulder, and to top it all off wor lass says "What hair i have left is turning Grey"

paddy , scaff have you tried glucosamine sulphate ? my wrists used to click like a clock i started using it about 3 years ago and they dont click no more. it replaces the cartilage in your joints you can get it from Holland and barrett health shops use the high strengh stuff 1000 mg

no wonder you want a claim up paddy , hope them prices are good mate

Nah Mate

No blame so no Claim, I am the same as the majority of Scaffs, never miss graft through drink or Minor injuries, we just get on with it.

On another note though, sort of related to this thread, i would impress on some of the younger Scaffs the need to wear work gear fit for purpose.

I have seen many a yougun turning up for graft in designer gear, they cant bend down, Pants too tight:eek: or it starts raining and they are soaked in seconds.

I allways buy the best pair of boots i can afford, keep your feet dry and warm = Happy Bunny. I have seen Scaffs basing out in the Winter with Jumpers riding halfway up their backs in a Blizzard, get some Overalls on, it all helps in years to come.

Regards
Grandad Paddy:D
