Mills doubles.

Best fitting invented band and plate yet the training centres hardly touch on them apart from out of date putlog

Here it comes:
Don't have a lot of knowledge on the Mills Double.
I have over many years been back and forth on the vibrating loose scenario and have yet to see a fitting that has come loose as a result of vibration.
That is not to say it will not happen!

I do not know of any current manufacturer of the Mills double but again that is not to say there are none.
I know for instance that there are still manufacturers of the SGB Mk3a and indeed the Band & Plate which are two of the oldest fittings in the game.

Band & Plate as Joebag says great fitting I cannot think of a single scaffold structure that I would want to build that could not be done with B&P.
Have done countless major structures using a combination B&P and MK3a couplers.
Love em in the nude!!!

The 90 or mills double had slow and speed thread bolt .
Mills also had Burton spanner made (7inch) long handle made for the speed thread to stop or prevent the scaffolder from over tightening the fitting at the time
But it could have caused a weak link in the industry and so you have the myth of fittings not tightthen up when the next squad came to dismantle the job,,
Work onshore and offshore for them great fitting
it was always drilled in to us at the time use them in pairs as per company procedure
cant find any old paper work on this to say they were only load baring when used in pairs. ,same practice for the gravelock beam clamp

Both Couplers have their own attributes…however, when it comes down to the wire, I would go for B&P…B&P beats the Millsiz 90 for speed ( even the quick tread )…B&P, one fix, no messin ;)...

In my 33 years I have worked with both fittings its each to their own on a personal note I worked for infamous walter Lawrence in the 80s I quickly adapted to how the 3 piece band & plate worked but if the thumb screws and chairs were bent or ceased this made this fitting far slower than the mills but if everything was in a serviceable order they were on par with each other but nobody talks about the speed of readylock transoms which in my mind nothing can touch them but this is my personal opinion and others may differ.scc
