Just started doing some work for Interserve & it's all on mills doubles.
Only ever used them for an hour before ( putting a putlog job up on my part 1 last year).
I can see the benefit of the: stronger structure, double on double for working lifts etc. Personally I prefer the drop forged fittings easier to use & therefore for me quicker to install.

How do the rest of you feel about them?

cracking fitting when you get used to them, be patient!
like everything else just give it time, just like the first time i used band and plate, all fingers and thumbs then when you get used to them, second to none.

the thing you have to remember about mills fitting is allways have the curved bolts curling towards the standard if you dont the ledgers and transoms can be a c.nt to get in once you get used to them they are a good fitting ive found that there a lot you can do with mills that you cant do with other fittings

You'll need a long boxed spanner, these are good for heavy duty scaffolds, supports falsework etc.they are a bit of a pain until you get used to them,if your front bolt is hanging just right your tube should roll in ok,but if your fitting isn't sqaure,it wont go in at all,we've got some in the yard and none of our lads will use them:bigsmile:

Mills 90's and hooks are the best fitting to use.
Well that's my Opinion, I started with GKN Mills so I used them for the first 10 years of scaffolding.

Superb fittings as the others say once you get used to them you won't want to use drop forged again. The hooks (single) are very useful too.

cant beat a mills fitting with a speed thread on price. spend 5 minutes working the fitting on and off the tube to suss them out. easy as after that . i got a wrench myself but with the speed thread you dont need one .

swifty its been a stressful week , time to move on. im sure we can agree on plenty of things. :):laugh:

First four years with Mills, so they are my fitting of choice, started off with old 1/2",great for hangers stand on the transom double whilst fitting the ledger,no short butts required, then they introduced the 7/16th the speed fit or curley whurley came in a lot later

Mills also do a full range of fittings for 3" tube, same design as 2" fittings but a whole lot bigger used them on the M1, M62 roundabout interchange back in the 60s, and a few support scaffolds later on

Quality fitting, aint used them in ages though. Sometimes I find myself saying "wish I had mills doubles for this one...."

My favourites too. I also started scaffolding using these. I hate it when i see them slung to the back of the fittings shed at smaller companies and never used by any of the scaffs.

There also handy for clipping two toeboards at once lol.

So true Mate,

Can't be many of us left now who have done it that way....... it was easier getting the ledger in with the 1/2 inch version..........but I also used the same technique for Hangers with the newer 7/16 inch 90's too...........and it made a much neater job, plus it was a quicker way to assemble it ;)

As for the 3 and 2's as we used to call them........ another fitting not many will have used now. I remember writing in a previous post sometime about how we used to hemp the 3 inch tube.......

Fortunately the longest length of 3 inch was a 16 foot.........you had to attach one of the 3 and 2 doubles a couple of feet from the bottom of the tube as this would be the grip for your lower hand, then proceed to lift it to locate it into the sleeve, while stabilising it with the palm of your upper hand.........job done

doesnt he swivel have a certain way of going on . its the bigger side of the internal washer on the up right . or it locks its self at the angle you put it on . Was mills depot on bennet st in nttm , mapperly top . memory aint what it used to be lol

Hi all,

Yeah really love these fittings too. I would use them every day if I had a choice. And the singles, or 'dogs' as we used to call em are the best toe board clips ever!!!

Yes Mills' yard was on Bennett St, Mapperley tops - worked from there for a while til it shut down.
