Man killed by falling tube

I'm heading over to one of our Keltbray jobs this morning. I'll see what I can find out.

I heard about this incident the other day, from what I know it was a very young person... the word kid was used. Very sad to hear anyone killed or injured in any way on construction sites. No other details on the incident but if erecting or striking was taking place on a site above a smoking area, the obvious question is there... why was there no cordon?

A scaffolder dropped a 5ft tube and it slid down a mansard roof - bounced and bounced and eventually ended up hitting a smoking canopy and then hit some poor dude in the face. (or so my sources tell me)

It is sad to hear some one died from this and and the other side, the scaffolder must be distraught!

yeh wouldnt want to be in his shoes , lots of questions to answer , anyone know the circumstances / contractors involved as of yet , has it been released in the paper

Lancaster Gate Fatality

There is only one 'Big' job in Lancaster Gate and that is the 'Lancasters'. I could name the Principle Contractor and Scaffold Company employed there but I do not think it would be wise to do so.
What I will say is that previous Health and Safety Reports regarding the scaffolding were blatantly ignored by those in control of the said project.
It is a very sad day for all those employed within the construction industry when commercial interests take precedent over the health, safety and welfare of all those working within.
If only Principle Contractors would heed their own advice when it comes down to safety and not be prejudiced by 'bean counters'.
My deepest sympathy goes out to the family of the deceased.

as i thought then john - rang bells

This is proper sad.

:sad:lads i know most of u feel the same way but this is 1 of my worst nightmares to happen to me or any1.

GOD BLESS U ALL.:sad::sad:

Thats a strong statement john "blatently ignored" i assume you have other information you arent able to share with us.

Whatever happened its a tragic loss of life, and we must all learn from it

Yes Rich, a strong statement. If the sad fatality is connected to the project I presume it is then it is even more sad. I do hope it is not the project I think it is but we will wait and see, the consequences of which does not look good for all concerned.
Unfortunately lessons are always learnt too late and it takes the loss of life to prompt action in many cases. Sad Sad.

The story I got today was a tube slipped out when being rope and wheeled, but I do not know if this is the story... I know we all want to know what happened so we can all learn and make sure this would never happen again! I have felt both ends, dropping something and having something drop on me. We are in a dangerous game at the end of the day!

so true spannerbitch if the truth be told there is not one of us that aint dropped something
while working **** happens sometimes no matter how careful we are, sometimes when working on the street your heart is in your mouth when you look down and see children right below you.I pray for his family at this terrible time . My thoughts also go out for the lads working when it happened as they have to live with this for the rest of there lives .
