mrworldwide im not one for those secret societies but i can tie a bow;)
ive been told on many occasions by many an asshole that i couldnt tie their boots,best of it was half them had riggers on not lace ups

Knots that I have useful are,
The truckers hitch.
Timber timber hitch.
Rolling half hitch.
Figure of eight.
Bowline hitch.
Crown knot.
Soft eye splice.
All very useful knots that young scaffolders should be taught.
A good length of rope can be the third man in the gang, but is only as good as the men at the end of it.

I take it you can "splice the main brace."

one i leant many years ago ideal for taking the sagg out of a cantilever when you cant get leverage with a board due to pipework or steelwork,is the SPANISH WINDLASS can be done with a rope but i have seen and done it with a belt.
np doubt some of the Auld Team will know it but i doubt very few of the young guns will have;)
 
aye, Old Bean…the auld SPANISH WINDLASS, yip remember it well, used it to pick up under deck hangers…hitched from underslung ledger to the Permanent hand rail on the walk ways, worked a treat…think its outlawed now though…aye, the old esoteric ways are disappearing fast…
