Hi all doing the BOISET/MIST thing next year, roughly how long does it take to get a job from the experience of people here after doing it. What is a reasonable time frame from the time of completing the course until you get a job, 6 months a year!!!
I am part 2 (carded) with 10 years experience and will be doing my advanced in March so have to wait a while before i get the card, just have the certificate for a while but will still have the basic scaff card.
Most of my experience is street work but have worked on a nuclear power station for hurtel for 2 years in the past and worked in Aus for a year doing swinging stages and layer system, cup lock etc.
Ive heard a lot of guys say its who you know, my neighbour has worked offshore for years but with rope access will this help in regards of scaffolding work?
Anyhow back to the question how long do you think it will take to land a job if i apply every day given that my CV contains a lot of street work in your opinion ot from the experience of guys that have been in this predicament?

you will be lucky to get a start straight away pal. having no offshore experience will be a hinderence..there have been a lot of lads paid off up to Christmas and last year was one of the worst for years ...back to your question you could be waiting for up to any time..it is about luck and timing and generally keeping on to the hr depts...things change from one minute in the offices so it is all about timing and getting a break....some times on the bigger jobs it can be a case of who you know...but on the upside there are a lot of bigger jobs starting next year offshore so there could end up being openings ..all the best and happy hunting

Make sure you do the MIST course and with a bit of luck you will get a kick in next year . As said above their is a lot of luck involved so keep sending your CV in and keep calling . There is some big jobs starting next year so keep at it , best of luck .

PSN has the decommission project on the brents that could be up to 10 years for all of those 4....there is a barge going to the bp andrew cape have that one,bg armada/north west Everest and lomond is due to start early in the year...cape and salamis going for that...more than likely will be salamis... have heard that will be a decent run of work...9 months on the armada then to the alwyn for 6 months then back to armada for 18 months...and all the shut downs through out the summer ...and rig blast have a lot of work lined up aswell by all accounts...so hopefully plenty of work to go round

Thanks for that Allan666 good tip, how long did it take for you to get work doing that??
After your first gig is it quite easy to get work from then on??

all i can say to all the the lads that want offshore say you have worked offshore before dont be ringing up and saying a havent worked offshore before other wise you might not get a kick in, any way if they carnt get enough people there will take every 1 experiance or not

If you are related to someone or from the north east you will have no problem

a mate of mine tried that route...told the girl he had been offshore before and put it on his cv...she came back 10 mins later to tell him he had never been offshore from the uk and he had just blown this chances with that company because she had check him against the vantage card system...
if you are going to b"llshit about it say you have been off with someone like van der panne in the dutch sector...flying out off den helder....

they do if you have to fly out from norwich or north denes...my first 5/6 trips out were from either of these places..and we all had to have vantage numbers to fly

Honesty is the best policy, Once you start lying your'll just be chaseing your tail all the time!

They could always ask to see your BOSIET certs from Holland etc
Better not to ******** at all. If your names not on the list your not coming in LOL

you carnt say youve been offfshore in the north sea with out a vantage number, but the likes of invergorden places like that, other wise you will be beaten your head off a wall, any way the only good thing about offshore is the 2 weeks off

You defo need a lot of luck anyway, dont think any1 knows how they work it out in HR depts now its mental how much say them girls in the offices have as to who is paid off or taken on..Last year RBG where advertising on there facebook page they were taking lads on, which they was...at the same time they were paying other lads off, dunno how they get away with to be honest....:amazed:
I've just been payed off by them myself a couple of weeks ago with nearly 4 years service, been on a painting project for them which had ended so they put me on another rig, two trips later there is a downman and i get the bullet and there r lads on there with about 6 months service but been on there longer then me so i had to go...
There is loads of **** like that what goes on offshore its weird... but as i say you defo need a lot of luck and once it gets to march ring them every day...either that or move to aberdeen and try and pull one of the birds out the office then you'll be sorted...

never seen any of capes but seen a few at RBG:sick: but i supposed it depends how much you want to work offshore:laugh:
