Gold Card Renewal

The Construction Industry Scaffolders Record Scheme

The CISRS has been running training courses through approved training providers for over 30 years. The days of "Grandfather Rights" have long since gone. The CISRS does however recognise the need to offer training and assessment courses for operatives of all ages and levels of experience. Through approved training providers (List of CISRS Approved Training Providers) courses can be found for all interested parties ranging from school leavers to operatives who have been in the industry for a number of years but have never held a valid qualification.

The CISRS intends to continue developing its scheme to reflect changes within construction. The Government is backing the fully qualified workforce initiative and in order to address this the CISRS offers a card for operatives at all levels - Labourer, Trainee, Basic and Advanced Scaffolder. The grade of the card reflects the holder's competence. The CISRS card should be the minimum requirement of clients prior to commencement of scaffolding work on their sites.

In order to ensure that the cardholder's Health and Safety knowledge is up to date they are required to renew their card every 5 years. If a scaffolder wishes to renew a card he must hold valid health and safety certification, which must have been attained within 2 years of the application.

In recent years there has been an increase in the use of proprietary scaffolding systems within the industry. From January 2004 the CISRS Parts 1, 2 and Advanced will include exercises using system scaffold. You can't beat the system! (PDF)

ASITO is currently developing a supervisors/managers course. This will be aimed at advanced scaffolders and charge hands who possess a great deal of craft expertise and knowledge but wish to receive training in areas such as estimating, health and safety at work, risk assessment, design, resource management etc.

I've rang NASC & CISRS, to ask about these so called refreshers to renew our CISRS cards, both companies said " they have no plans to introduce such a scheme now or in the future" or words to that effect, they didn't both say the exact same thing for all you pessimists and conspiracy theorists out there.

Nice one. This whole threads a lot of sh*te then? That's five minutes of my life I'll never see again.

And just what will it involve?its not the money I object to,it's sitting in a feckin classroom being told how to suck eggs, meanwhile back at the ranch the real work gets neglected, and we're expected to pay money for the privilege, cheeky grabbing baskets:mad::mad:
Agree bigfish , are the instructors and training centres. Undertaking such a strict regime of training

Dont wanna be doom & gloom but seem to remember a similar conversation reguarding the cots scheme but the sneaky rats seem to have put that into place under the radar

My card says valid until 2016!!

If they want to change the renewal process then they can do it then!

He would be interesting to know what they expect to teach most the Gold Card holders. The ones that have had them a while would know all the changes that have been made.

The only ones that need more help would be the new ones who lack the experience of holding this card for less time.

Then you are back to the same thing CISRS not having the confidence in what they are doing!! What a joke.

Someone at CISRS or NASC please let us know what you wish to tell us we do not know that could not be put up on your web site or written in a bulletin that you would send to your card holders.

Its scaffolding not rocket science!!

Ragscaff

Hardest thing about this job is having to put up with the daily nonesense of other scaffs.
Swear, some days i feel like a social worker.

The actual job, easy peasy.

Your not wrong there mate, some of the biggest d1ckheads I've ever met are scaffs

Hey, i know right?
Never used to be like this eh?

The old lads were always hard, but fair. Had some good old times on the sauce with them too. Gentlemen.
Now they are soft and childish, like that doyle vancouver with his silly nicknames and his pals, ha.

Though, some decent lads here, from those ive spoken to like.

Spot on with your summary again sc@ffolder. They young guns have had it too easy. Double handrails and harnesses, turtle doves and safety glasses. No wonder they are so soft.
The old lads were hard but fair like Leeds in the days of Bremner and Giles

Well done fred, giving a good team a mention...lol

The lads today wouldn't even entertain jobs some of us have erected in the past. I remember doing high rises 10-15 lifts high no handrail, single boards during erection and dismantle, now they wont get off the floor till they've rang mummy and had a cry

10-15 lifts high, no handrail and a single board? Sheer bloody luxury, we had to make our own tube in furnace on the base lift and rip up park benches for boards.

Feck sake i had to chop trees down and make fecking boards, but used to rob the tube from other jobs...:eek:
