Fresh out of training

It all depends who you work with its all well and good doing street work or heavy oil but if your doing your training with a bunch of useless Wally's your gonna pick up they're bad practice.if you work in a good gang no matter if it's street or whatever you'll do ok but I would say don't think your a scaff after 6 mths or even 12 as that's the problem these days.

I agree mate, I learnt the trade from the bottom up.
In the yard for at least 6 months, after what seemed like an eternity I got to go out with the scaffolders as a labourer. It was probably another 9-12 months at least before I was allowed to wear my belt and turn a spanner. Dodging tubes, fittings and boards that were coming down thick and fast and then running the gear to the waggon. I actually took pride in a tidy load.
When it was being erected I used to get the gear set out while the scaffs enjoyed their cup of tea. I would get my brews through the day, get a head start and the rest of the day was sorted.
In my opinion, learning this way is the most effective way of getting a true understanding of the scaffolding game. At the pointy end anyway.
SGB were fantastic when it came to training, and I was fortunate enough to get all my qualifications through them. However learning from skilled, competent and motivated scaffolders (that are prepared to pass their knowledge on) on a variety of jobs is the way forward.

Yes you could be scaffolding for 40 years and know nothing!as I've seen a
Many a time.if a young boy is cut out for it you would know.ive had boys straight from school that will wipe the floor with some people after 6mth compared too they're 20 years as I said its how your taught and if the gang thinks your good enough which makes the diff.
