Trade Test, Esso Fawley

Had to do a trade test(part of the site induction) when I first worked at Fawley in 1988. When I went back down there in 95, it had been discontinued. Can't remember if anyone actually failed the test. It consisted of building a 2.40m2 tower 2 lifts high, cantilever out on the second lift, with droppers installed on the cantilever and tied back into the first lift, all tied back to their racking to resist tipping moment. Advanced scaffolder not withstanding, thinking about it, it may have been just travelling men who had to go through the trade test.

Did a trade test in rig blasts yard around 98 before going out on the elf elgin hook up, what a wast of time. A wee diddy 8" tower and didn't even get to finish it because as soon as they saw the Aberdeen's going in they stopped you. Once on the job you wondered why they bothered as Aberdeen's were as scarce as hens teeth.:eek:

We need more scaffolders in the industry because reading this forum half of them want to be Nebosh Qualified, Go Abroad or a Designer.

Get Training. Haha

I would still scaffold if i did get my Nebosh, just be nice to flash your credentials and tell some suit he was talking out of his backside if he pulled you on something that was right:laugh::laugh:
