define supervisor

A bloke who constantly f.ucks jobs up, blames his mistakes on everyone else other then own up to them and feels the desire each week to pinch money back from his men for little to no reason...

Someone who can do all paperwork, scaffold well ( make decisions ) and has repect from the boys... also has to be capable of kicking fuk outta them if they toss it off...

Someone who gets grief from the men and grief from the gaffers, thankless task at times.

Mmm, tough one Tim. Obviously you will get the lads moaning no matter what type you are, and you will no doubt get a few replies from supervisors who will tell you it's not their fault as they are just the messenger. I sometimes feel I am just a fecked up jumble of opinions but feel the supervisor is quite often on the loosing side but for me he is the damn to try and keep the pressure from mounting on the boy's to let them do their job. Some are erse's of the highest order who will shaft a squad just to keep the pressure off himself then point the finger at said squad for not delivering, all to save his own skin. It's a simple enough task when all is going well but when it hits the fan it's no fun. Like all jobs I suppose.

Joe, WTF is that you are using for an avatar?

A supervisor is the giver & receiver of @rse kickings.

The one who gets blamed for any f-up the (lads/manager/director/owner/customer) make.

The one who is "a fkn moron" for only sending 200 doubles on the wagon (like the lads asked for) when the lads were going to stay late to get the job finished.

The one who agrees the programme with the site manager for the following week, only to find a letter from said site manager on his desk the next morning informing him that he is going to be contra-charged for brickies standing.

The one that usually starts earlier than anyone else in the office and stays later.

The one that was sh1te when he was on the tools.

The hands on field boss as simian has said never gets any thanks, always gets the blame for the slightest error, has to be firm, best mate, a good problem solver, an alcoholic shrink, a rubbing rag, toilet roll, great with the slashing wages pen..
gets grief from:
The directors, contracts managers ,scaffolders, yard staff ,drivers, site contracts managers, site managers , safety people , has to work 24/7 for little rewards, gets it in the neck for not pricing up jobs correctly , gets in the neck for over pricing jobs and loosing them, puts their thoughts on here and gets it from other forum members. GREAT JOB REALLY....
does come with a health warning and is almost certain to cause high stress levels and depression, heart attacks , strokes, loneliness, marrage problems and liver failure...

A supervisor is like a lance corporal in the army hated by the men and barely tolerated by the hierarchy, he gets all the sh1te thrown at him by the men, his own company and the general contractor and after working from 0600hours until 1800 hours for a pittance he gets to drive home in his company vehicle and wait for his mobile to ring with the list of excuses of why so and so cant come in the following day [and so the circle starts again]:eek:
