Can anyone tell me the name of this fitting

We used to call them no bolts years ago ,
Iam not sure what sort of strength they have but they where popular for a short while on site work

That were I seen them on a site near me, only on the base lift tho!! There extenda transoms use the same fitting aswell!

Harsco use them out in Holland. Van Theil doudles. Not to sure on the kn, will get back to you on that but are a lot stronger than the conventional British Double Coupler.

Weaverbix has it,
It's a wedge coupler common place in Holland. Bow Scaffolding had some on trial in around 2000-2004 but not a popular fitting.
I believe they are still a class A or B fitting but have never liked them.

PS
These used to come with a loose wedge in Holland, this type is known as a captive wedge.

Were they a Van-Thiel manufactured fitting Al?

You mentioning the Bow scaffolding/Van-Thiel connection just reminded me of some funny stories of Bow's management of the day having their product knowledge seminar in Amsterdam and their antics in town.

The ones I saw were Van Thiel, and the stories were only rumor I am sure

used them in holland boys called them spear doubles can be used for transoms too try no to put them near an upright but pain in the arse if the spear is on the wrong side they say their just as strong as British but don't think so wouldn't say a hammers stronger than
a spanner british best

I worked in Holland in the early 90s and these were van thiel clamps, I quite liked them but as said before don`t know the load performance, used the loose wedge type to , belt had a pouch on the back for the wedges they were flying all over the place on a dismantle.

As per Sweatys rules on pouch wearing (frontal display all times)

Dont know contents in Pouches its a clan secret

But I was told Macdonalds clan store oat flavoured potato wedges in theirs .

Ahhhh the Van Thiel double, quick fittings, NIGHTMARE to base out with though, like basing out with drop gate doubles. Worked for a firm near Manchester that had them 15 years ago. Ended up just using them for handrails, brilliant for that cause no bolts to snag on.

The picture is of a Van Thiel double coupling made by the same company that make Tube lock. If you have a gang that know how to use them correctly they can be 3 times qicker than useing British bolt coupling. They can take some time to get the hang of; prefab as much as possible is key. You can not put paint on the spear and they do go rusty after a couple of years so they will not last as long as a traditional bolt coupling but they are a class B fitting.
