i phoned the citb and they said they NEED the portfolio ..

Thats total crap. The 1st thing they did with my portfolio was put it in the bin! The two day course was brought in for those who could not do photos on their jobs, eg prisons, military bases, government etc.

There was a name for the course/assessment, I will try and find the name of it. Once you are there they issue a new portfolio, which was half the size of my original, and everything is done in the those two days.

It does exist as I and many others done it!
