alright guys,

long story here, I have been scaffolding for 7 years now and my old boss would never put me through my part 2 so i eventually put my self through that and my survival. so i got the part 2 certificate and was to then hand in the portfolio to do my one day assessment, long story short i left the company i worked for before i done my part 2 (in april) cause the guy was mucking my wages about etc ..now realising i have no one to fill out my portfolio i cannot get my date for my one day assessment?

what am i suppose to do now?

any advice would be greatfull

In theory you should be able to do the final assesment before completing the portfolio. I know lads that have done this, its not technically right but the CITB is so disorganised this sometimes happens or lads forget to take their portfolios with them etc etc. The portfolio is for the NVQ only.

If you can speak to someone at the CITB to clarify the info. I always find Stacey Ramshaw at Bircham to be really helpfull. 0300 456 7716

To get someone to act as your WBR they only need to be deemed 'competent', that word again eh!

This can be another qualified scaffolder, supervisor, manager etc so ask some mates to help out.
Ive done loads and loads of portfolios as have others on here, any questions just ask.

thanks alot mate. only thing is ?? i gave my portfolio to someone and they said they couldnt do it because they need timesheets and everything to go in the portfolio how do you go about that then? my girlfriend's uncle has a painting company and sometimes they use scaffolding and he said he could do it for me but the only thing is i cant get a hold of any drawings, photos or timesheets?

thanks

we have done other peoples portfolios in the past for a fee , doing 3 at the moment for other guys

help you wanted

hello mate any one you know who is a qualified scaff can singe ur portfolio off for you!

hi im in the same boat as regards to the evidence, training 2000 was goin to allow me to do my assessment then forward my portfolio on to them when i could manage put it together, the only trouble im only working for a small local firm at the moment so its going to be hard.If there is anyone in the north west area who could help with finishing of my portfolilo for a fee i would be really gratefull.

Phil
If you get an Advanced lad who was working with you this will I belive be okay for your portfolio.
Goo Luck

You dont 'need' timesheets, they are just one thing that can be used as evidence. Hand over certs, RA/MS, scafftags, diary entries etc can all be used, just make sure your name is on the document. If you use H/O certs signed by someone else, put the names of the gang on it making sure your one of them.

If I can help you any more let me know.

If you actually do the job your name should be on it anyway.
Are we in danger of the profession having even more "qualified" people with NVQ certificates etc who cant actually do the job than there are already??
Nothing personal just a generalisation.
Are you aware that the NVQ in access levels 2 and 3 can currently be gained
overseas and only the HSE test needs to be done ???

The problem with that statement is, if your a trainee scaff, you are technically not qualified to hand over a scaffold, hence, the chargehand/qualified scaffolder/competent person, whatever you want to call them should be the one signing over the job.

I find it easier to use the RA/MS that matches the task. If I dont have it to hand its easy enough to blag one up.

I have been able to do these jobs for years. my old boss was a idiot and im going to see him tonight to see if i can get this done but im panicin because i know he wont do it as i left his firm cause of differences.

im just finding it hard to get a hold of the drawings and photos of these jobs. im i right in saying that i defo need these.. its just the timesheets that i dont really need?

First off, which type of portfolio are you using? CITB, Safety & Access, WCTS or ??????

Each task requires evidence to back up the fact you 'actually' did the job.
The evidence can be any one of the previously mentioned things, as long as its relevent to the task and has your name on it.
Drawings can be funny depending on which verifier is doing the portfolio. Technically it should be a working drawing, not preliminary. Carry the company stamp and date erected or dismantled.

Like I said, I find using RA/MS doc by far the easiest, by rights there should be one for each job you do anyway, just get a copy or use the original if they let you have it.

it is citb.. i have phoned them and appartently my old boss has to give me the stuff so i will go see him tonight and if he wont do it for me i will ask for the evidence and do it my self with help from another scaff. fingers crossed.

i have a job lined up for me and was suppose to go offshore on monday and they realised i didnt have my one day assesment this is why this is so urgent

Phil Mc your Boss sounds like a pr**k wouldn't put you through part 2 after 7 years this is the same old case of not wanting to pay you the wage your worth and holding you back and now keeping back your evidence. Sounds like my old boss.

yup your right.

everyone is telling me different info.. some are saying i only need ra/ms for my portfolio others are saying i need photos drawings and timesheets so im a bit confused here.. im going to see my old boss tonight to see if we can put it all behind us and he will do my porfolio so hopefully he says yes but you never know.

i phoned citb and apparently if you have done the work then the boss has togive you the evidence

If you are getting a headache from the portfolio.... bin it and ask to be put on a two day assessment where you will erect/strike scaffolds to meet all the criteria. The assessor will take photos of you while you work. You will get both your card and cert from this.

i phoned the citb and they said they NEED the portfolio .. do you know a number where i could do this and how much it would be? i only need my card i have the cert ..thanks mate

phil have pm you , let me know the crack
