Liked your post---whats the script with EDEXEL---Iv read the link but cant grasp the significance, is it a new Qualification and how are we to select a Candidate ?---good idea...

The CISRS is what it is a data base of scaffolders registration run by NASC , the current benchmark is the NVQ , ie: NVQ 2 = blue scaffolders ticket, NVQ 3 = Advanced/gold ticket, the CITB part 1/2 and advanced corses are part off the route to NVQ under the Construction Skill scheme. Candidates taking this route also have to compete a portfolio and be assessed to achieve an NVQ.

Its the NVQ qualification that gives the CITB training creditability, (Cap 609 section 5 page 21) compliance with ACOPS etc. The CITB is an accredited NVQ awarding body under the Cskills arm of their organisation .

EDEXEL is another accredited NVQ awarding body offering NVQ 2 diploma in access and rigging under the new QCF frame work Overview of the QCF | Edexcel .

NASC are refusing to allow vastly experienced ECITB scaffolders to join the CISRS at a level appropriate to their skill and experience offering only a trainees card and insisting on a route to NVQ achievement designed for candidates with only six months industry experience .

IMO, an ECITB scaffolder with an NVQ 2 would be different situation all together. NASC/CISRS would find it difficult not to recognize an NVQ 2 simply because it was awarded by a body other than Cskills .

There are a number of forum members with ECITB tickets who find themselves in this position . Could be a very interesting journey :)

Q: I have achieved S/NVQ Level 3 qualification, am I entitled to a CISRS card?

No, there are 3 elements needed to obtain a CISRS card, CISRS practical training, S/NVQ and H&S test.

CISRS Scaffolder cards are only issued when the operative has undertaken the relevant CISRS training Pt 1 and Pt2, achieved the S/NVQ Level 2 in Access and Rigging Operations and passed a CSkills H&S test

To reach Advanced they must carry out all of the above plus the CISRS Advanced course, S/NVQ Level 3 in Access and Rigging Operations and passed the CSkills H&S test.

It seems as if they dont want scaffs anymore, are we a dying breed

Is your NVQ 3 in access and rigging operations ? If it is then you must have attended a CITB advanced scaffold course as the Cskills is the only route to level 3 achievement as things stand at the moment .

I did my Part 1 in 1986 and part 2 in 1988 , in 1996 when NVQs were first introduced i received a level 2 via industry accreditation which involved an on site assessment.

In 2008 I decided to bring my industry training inline with my experience and self funded the Advanced course . Interestingly of the 9 candidates on my course only 2 had actually undergone part 1 and part 2 training the other 7 had attained their Basic Card and level 2 status via the assessed route.

The point being part 1 and 2 training are not necessary to achieve NVQ level 2 status . EDEXCEL now offer an alternative to Cskills to level 2 achievement via the QCF frame work .
