Here's a strange one for you lads, If you sit down to do your work on an independent scaffold, the gap from the inside board to the work face can be no more than 300mm. If you build a birdcage scaffold the maximum gap from the boards to the wall with out a guardrail can not be more than 150mm.

You would have thought it would have been the other way round as on an independent there's not as much room behind to pass by.

Yet another strange rule

Why is this ?

I think you may have overdone this one Russ, who said that an independent should be no more than 300mm from the wall? I think it's more to do with risk assessment than any hard and fast rule.

That is true.

The thing about 300mm or 225mm maximum gap is pure fantasy.

Its one of the questions on the Advanced scaffolding inspection course and the Advanced scaffolding course. I'm presuming it makes up part of the WAHR. You get a cross on your sheet if you put anything else aom

It used to be "as close as reasonably practicable" I think, anyway its bound to cause a fuss this question

I now send out a copy of the guidance note to clients with some of my quotes as I get fed up trying to explain it.

I've seen loads of incorrect questions on better courses than that, tell them they haven't a clue. It must be the same course my customers go to.

Just reporting what I was taught by a reputable CISRS centre, its one of the questions on the 50 question test. Perhaps if we have an instructor online he could enlighten us, as I've always been taught it had to be "Close as reasonably practicable"

Yeah I know, I didn't mean to sound smart. I think it's sg29 that covers it.

Is this the same course you got your other contradictions from?

there quite a few questions wrong and the people that write these booklets and sheets have been notified by a very good trainer that knows hes stuff wouldn't be fair to mention the well none company or the trainer but when your quoted the questions from the booklet but told there wrong but you have to put whats in the booklet somethings wrong I suppose it would cost loads to recall all the booklets and write new crazy world we live in

That's ok aom, I like to get people thinking ( and laughing)

To be honest, it also annoys the food out of me as we are the ones who have to deal with these guy's when they get their shiny new ticket.

Know what you mean, I'm off to get worked up now ready for "BENEFIT STREET" it takes me a good couple of hours to prepare for that program !!!!!

That's why the centres get audited Kev by an awarding body. Same thing with the drawings, their not right but just ignore it.

Your right, everyone just wants to get through it with the minimum of fuss. Threads like this help as nobody wants named and shamed.

Even funnier when I heard that they were all up in arms because they thought it was a documentary about a strong community spirit.

Have you got contact details for "the reputable CISRS training centre"?
Is it the one in the North East?
