Well where do I start.....the thread on Saggitarius really got me thinking. Ive now been out of work for 3 months, my first time out of work since I started in the game 9 years ago. I was starting to consider applying for work through agencies as around the Great Yarmouth/Norwich area there isnt anything and working in London. This would be hard enough with my partner and new born at home without the possibility of being shafted for money while I was away from home. What with having to pay for digs, grub and keep my family at home. Well I guess I can safely say I will avoid saggitarius at all costs but I maybe need you guys to restore my faith in the AGENCY name and post about the good ones more and not so much about the bad ones lol

Scaffolder wanted for 2 - 3 weeks. Might have more work work in new year. Tradesmen / Labour Jobs Norwich Norwich

Qualified scaffolder wanted for a few weeks before the new year. You must be part 1 or part 2 C.I.T.B registered and be able to drive a 7.5 tonne lorry. I can only give a couple of weeks work at the moment, due to the time of year, but i am very busy at the moment and the new year looks busy to. You will need to make your own way to my yard in the mornings. Pay rate will determine on experience and output. PLEASE, DO NOT CALL ME IF YOU ARE NOT QAULIFIED OR CAN NOT LEGALLY DRIVE A 7.5 TONNE LORRY, I DON'T WANT LABOURERS I NEED A DECENT SCAFFOLDER WHO KNOWS THE SCORE. There is a possible chance of a full time job, this will depend on my work load and the applicant. Most of my work covers East Anglia, so be prepared for early starts and late finishes, i do not tolerate slackers, so if you are looking for an easy touch, don't call me. All i am looking for is a good, decent scaff, who can work with a labourer, or me and do a tidy job. If you think you fit the desciption call 07764962627.

Not sure if this is any good to you mate, might be worth a call

Nice one Ian

I would also comment that the guy who wrote the ad has laid out what he requires from potential applicants and states wages will be in line with experience and output

hi mate,
ive applied 4 many of jobs over the last few wks..
id say about 20, and all but 1 has been through agencies.
ive heared bad things bout them messing u about with money and promissing u months of work when really thers only wks but truth is what ive come to find is 90% of jobs ar advertised throgh agencies these days because its much easyer and cheaper 4 them plus they take youre name and details butt never seem to get back to you...
so im with u on this 1 and dnt really trust them..
Dan

Agencies are liars. They lie about wages and lengths of contracts. You'd be better off financially at Mc Donalds.

A lot of the jobs agencies advertise are founded on ifs buts and maybes, clients ring them saying they MIGHT need scaffolders for x number of weeks can u supply them IF I need them BUT nothing definite . Within the hour the agency has the vacancies advertised on the job centre web site with all kinds of false promises just so they have list of names ready if the job gets the go ahead.

On occasions I have worked for Octain and never had a problem, they are forum members and often post direct on the forum if they need to fill a position quickly .

he not asking for anything but a decent scaffolder who can drive as far as i read it, and it is exactly what it says on the tin probably, he has probably had his fill of some of the jokers who think the world owes them a living so has spelt it out exactly what he is looking for, just in case anotha joker turns up , he can point to the ad and tell them to jog on

careful ian your discriminating against lazy people here , they will have you in the human rights courts before your feet touch the floor . 7.5 ton wagon drivers who can actualy put a good shift in are getting harder and harder to find as they are getting older the ones with the old liscences

agencies are rubbish! they never ring back and are always promising u the earth. You dont even get paid by them, u have to go through an umbrella company which usually charges you between £10 - £20 a week, which obviously all adds up....shocking. Whatever happened to firms advertising and word of mouth?

No umberella company with us and some of the lads who have been working for us for years are earning £60k+.
I do simpathise though, people promise us the world and then drop us like a brick, but it is not always the case. That might happen 30 times a year so in big picture of it it's not that common. We always say how it is and normally jobs run over,if there is 2 weeks work there is 2 weeks work.Ask any of our men and most will say we are fair, but i have heard there are lots out there who are far from it.

Grum, There the ones that are getting the rest a bad name. Perhaps the bone fide agencies should form an association with strict criteria for membership included as one the conditions a guarantee of payment on time and in full for work completed satisfactorily. I'm sure such a move would guarantee not only the best recruits but enhance the profile of the member agencies in sourcing work of the better companies.

sounds good to me brandy,it might get us all more work and the lads have more confidence when working for "approved" firms.

hi grum hope thats not your firms name, well ill be honest i think its just a cheap way to get scaffolders the firms pay they men **** money but they will pay an agency more for there men why not give there own blokes an ancentive to do the work, then will not need agencys and have a direct policy for men to work in full time enployment then to a job then get fucked of, just my veiw which i think is fair

They have all talked about it, now here is a scaff with 25 yrs behind him telling you boys out there, I am negotiating with an agency on behalf of you lot out there to try and give you fair deal.

I will have to give my job up to do this I will be working for the agency.
(Lets make this clear from the start)

I promise if this happens I will make sure everyone that works for me will be paid on time as long as they do their bit.
I also promise that I will vet every client ( and every scaffolder ) and ask you to fill in a short questionaire to tell us about your experience with that client.

But and here is the big but, no w*nkers need apply. Fair wage for a fair graft.

Watch this space,

Lets see if they agree to my conditions.
Or back to DSL Monday
