Self employed

i've worked for agencies for 4 years and last october new laws came in where cis workers were entilted to the same rights as PAYE workers. so the agency pays me through a umbrella company to avoid holiday pay. i pay £23 a week admin fee.

Our fee is 30% but unfortunately the government charge VAT also. Nothing we can do about that.
Hang on a minute. I signed up to Bettertax simply for the reason that I have forked out a small fortune this year on the trade and expect a decent rebate this year.I was willing to pay the 30 per cent rate, but whats this about 36 pc? If the inland want me to pay tax I have already paid into the government coffers then forget it.

You boys pay to much

But then if i earnt as much as gibbs 😃 i wouldnt shop bout either !

John the manc,

Maybe I worded that a bit off. VAT is chargeable on any service, and the government see what we do (claiming tax back for clients) as a service, so the VAT is on our charge, not your refund, per se.

If you decide not to go ahead with us, please give the office a quick call so we can remove you from our database. We'll be open again tomorrow at 9am. Thanks.
