I believe it is for Harsco. I went for an interview some time ago there. Keeps popping up with other job sites to.
Not sure if it is taken yet.

Harsco, that makes sence. Lower wage scale and the expectation of you working to unsocial hours and being grateful for the privelage. No wonder it remains open.

The ad says 33 - 40k. They never mentioned it at the interview only that there was no company car available as it is the 'American' way. Coming from 5 years in management and estimating I always had a company car so to purchase a newish car to just run it down for work was not acceptable. They said the allowance was good for that though. I have heard that they have changed that again but not sure how true it is.

I seem to remember we had this discussion before ebscaff. If they are going to ask you to provide your own transport then you should expect a car allowance of £6.5 k per annum plus a fuel allowance for business mileage of at least 13p per mile. Other building companies are already offering this.
However to my mind an international company relying on the individual to provide transport to carry out their work is a Pi55 take. the American example is not allowing for the high cost of running cars in Britain.
I have provided my own vehicle in the past but increased maintainance, fuel , Insurance, repairs, and depreciation make the cost burdon too high for the individual.

Purplehead - I have worked as an estimator in the Anglian region in the past with a wage of £43k + car. Their difficulty in filling this post may well be due to the poor value they are placing on the position offered. But there is always someone willing to take on a low paid job!
