Hourly rate from 5/6 years ago

This is one of many factors that is ruining the trade. Why can't companies pay lads/lassies what they are worth. We all know the current state of the economy and the fact that there's not alot of decent jobs out there.Call it what you like but when the dust eventually settles its exploitation.

Willing to accept

I would agree with that but its also the point that they are getting away with paying these shocking rates because everyone just accepts it as the way it is and nothings going to change. We need to stand up and be counted. If we all stuck together and refused to work for peanuts then they would have no choice to up the rate and quickly it would rise also.

yup i agree its not a good rate but when theres not a lot out at the moment and now since we are now part of europe its not just us brits competing against other brits for the british jobs the companys know the eastern euros will work for it so they will offer the low pay and know itl get snapped up

1) Supply and Demand
There are more lads looking for work than there are jobs

Exactly

The rate may be poor but I guarentee someone will grab it.

Its OK taking the moral high ground but that doesnt keep the roof over your head and food on the table...

Sorry lads but in my view its going to be a long time (If ever) before we return to what some would call good times...The situation has gone full circle and now its the Employers who are in the driving seat hence the rates, also, remember the rates Companies were landing work at has also drastically reduced, couple that with huge rising cost i.e. materials, fuel etc...Something has to give.

Good point....................
Im not a union man but talking to some of the older gen of guys ive worked with all have mentioned that if the scaffold industry had got together and agreed 15 or 20 years ago that we should all work to a minium hourly rate and linear metre run this problem would not be so bad, but being penny pinchin f***ers and back stabbin sods every company went out to under cut each other to secure the work, thus reducing our rate by half and then some for the workers.
Its a tough enough job without having to brake your back to put food on the table.

[You dont become a scaffolder, your born one!]
