I was wondering if anyone could help... Ive had a google around and found nought.
We have a Mercedes Atego 815 7.5T and ive been told that they are a downgraded 10 or 13T lorry and the only thing you have to change to get them back up is to upgrade the springs.
Does anyone know if this is true? We need to haul a bit more around but dont want to change the ol girl really. Any info is welcome cheers guys.

wouldent suprise me spot am at has yan seem bigger than the rest of the 7.5's and dont struggle with the weight and trust me its been bouncing lol

Its far too easy to fork on 4 or 5 tonne, especially now we put our 21s in the tube grips- you can stack them 4 or 5 wide! Just dont like to keep doing it as one day we'll get a tug!...and not an enjoyable one!:D

Different size tyres and springs mate - not straightforward to uprate !!
Presume its an 815 ?? Would u really want a 13 tonner with a 150bhp lump in it ???
I have had 1017 and 1018 ategos downrated to 7.5 ton before

815 will hold 6/7 ton no probs anyway !

Yeah its an 815. I take it that means different wheels too? I dont think the powers too much of a prob she pulls well enough, just dont want to keep taking the risk every time we need a good load on.
I assume 7.5t gross is a 'safe maximum load' and not what the truck is actually capable of carrying?

Yeah, 7.5 t maximum gross weight. We looked at uprating as well a while back but as Scaffy has said it's a complicated business, tyres wheels and hubs as they 13 tonner will need an extra stud. Too many other alterations to mention, far cheaper swapping the old girl for a fancy new one.

Where the hell have you been and where is ma podger?;)

super i can top that , just got the prosecution through for 12316kg on a 7500kg merc atego !!!!!!!! Driver with no licence , the worx !!!!!!!!!
Them mercs hold the weight well , vosa had the vehicle impounded due to overload - but as there was confusion with the police i managed to get it out the pound the net day and sent it on its way to stockport - still with same load

haha, Chris I could never understand what gives the scaffs a bad name as drivers.

If its a down graded lorry then its only a part they put on the springs that needs to be changed and then re plated at the weigh bridge , the lorry is 10 or 13 tonne chassis and 8 studs with bigger wheels already in place just got a part put in the springs so the load forces them down with less weight. I looked at buying one a few years ago that was 10 tonne down down graded to 7.5

Podger in Da Post Porridge Muncher, Thats the fifth one Ive sent and You say you havnt recieved , I will put a stamp on it next time :noworry: Scaffy had all that no license an no insurance ******** in the past , believe me you dont need it Bud , I reckon you must now be on the hitlist of your local vosa agency, local Safety Man, local police and local council The South Coasts Real Life Public Enemy Number One

I'll cancel my order with buybrand then.

Blloody hell, thought i was being naughty putting 5t on the back of the merc. Now i know its true potential ill just load the girl right up- stick some debris netting over the top to conceal the 300 long :D

The Secret is to load the wagon properly , keep it neat an tidy evenly balanced as close as possible to creating a solid block on the back , it will then drive and handle ok and not look too bad to an untrained eye , Think the Most Ive ever had on wagon was a job that took us 3 days to erect came home in one load , the job wasnt huge but big and awkward , we put wagon on weighbridge at place we were working and it nearly broke it haha I think it was around the 13,200 KG .

A Good trick is to keep all ya 8s n 10s till last then load them end to end like 20s pain in arse to unload but good to transport haha:nuts:

I always put 2 toe boards on the end of my heavy loads and strap it down well , stops the old bill seeing into the lorry and touch wood i aint been pulled for a long time

The Best Bit About When I Got Tugged Over Loaded, Was That I Had Parked The Wagon outside my house overnight , The Vosa Dude Was Parked Behind me when I went to the wagon Next Morning , No Engine Running, No Occupants in Truck, No Tachograph , He made me put tacho in and drive 7 miles on the public highway To Weighbridge in a well over loaded and therefore dangerous truck, putting the safety of other road user,s ( mainly fcukin pikie horse an trap round here flattening a few would done every **** a favour ) at Risk.

haha, that's a worse excuse than sent you 5 podgers already.

How did it workout for you?
