Hello all, I'm looking for some good advice really. Ive been in the army for 5 years and have worked on many construction sites in that time. I have the equivalent of a part 1 in scaffolding but no true "on site" experience with it. I'm leaving the army in the next year and would like to pursue a career in scaffolding. What are my best options and am I best off starting as a labourer? And then how do I actually get a labourers job. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi pal all you need to do is phone round and get a job as a trainee scaffolder pal you should get around 7.50-10.00 an hour on books but as self employed you could get alot more but my opinion is get with a firm and get security also hope you get with a good lad who will have time of day for you matey

PM me and i'll give you a number mate. My mate runs a depot in Manchester.

A few army lads have posted on here and managed to find jobs in the trade by the look of it.
Ex-forces means you are physically fit and if you can drive a truck, then even better.
You shouldnt have much trouble finding work if theres any about.
Good luck.
OH and welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum and with luck you will get a job in the Manchester area before long

There are many similar threads like this on here my friend use the search tab to find em....but my advise to all ex servicemen is dont get disheartened by any knockbacks ...uve many fine qualities deally suited to our trade, being ex forces myself i tend to favour guys when i need em....dont forget ur learning credits are a bonus to an employer as you can then be trained from there funding. Try to get the army to pay for your part1 as your resettlement and elc cover both part2 & the nvq3.if your under 25 theres a possibility you'll also be able to get onto a government funded scheme...all in all the outlooks positive for you if you can geta coy that are willing to help u with all the paperwork.i would also advise to try one of the bigger coys as they are likley to be more switched on with what you can do rather yhan the smallnone man band type setups that will only us & abuse ya like a dog...good luck

Thanks for all this advice guys, really helpful. Any of the tricks of the trade from any of your experince will be a great help.
