I am an ex army commando finished 8 years with the army and have spent my last 6 months working for sgs and harsco now I can't get a job! I have my part 1 and safety passport both well in date and I am eager than anyone to get back into it. I paid £1200 for a course to get a job I want and £140 for a safety passport and at the moment there ******* useless coz no 1 wants a part 1! How can I get the experience if am not given the oppertunity? Just saying. If anyone knows of any work within my area or wants to employ me please get intouch I've bin out of work 2 months now and I've registered and sent cv's to god knows how many scaffolding companies. I actually enjoy it and I learn fast and not shy of graft! Also have my 7 1/2 tonne

Shouldnt have to go far fella on here ,, if u can drive the lorry , u should be snapped up ,, good luck ;]

Fifty percent of lads at the small and medium sized firms I've worked for don't have any tickets, some don't even have a license, you maybe lookin at it the wrong way ,adapt overcome my mate,it will happen for you ;). Turn up at a different outfit everyday for a week with your license and kit,bet you within a week they need someone to drive the wagon !

The thing is the army will pay for my part 2 and advanced but no one is bothered or owt and am not using that money to pay to get a part 2 if I can't get a ******* job! On my arse here like lol **** knows! Av even started applying for fish factory jobs and those waste of space ***** won't take me on! WTF!

stick on here marra some 1 will be around next few days that needs a dirver theres a few gaffewr on here like there new starters ex servives you got the wagon licence oyu more than half way there the part 1 can be a disadvantage to you with no exprience i learned that look at lab jobs first to get your foot in the door with a firm good luck hoe things work out for you

Got a friend left the army same you mate. Used the army funding to complete his part 2 and gain a NEBOSH. Things will pick up. Keep your ear to the ground and you'll get something.

Try agencies get your name down. Make yourself know.

Good luck pal

Cheers lads al keep me head up n keep trying. Av got 6 months exp av done some pretty decent jobs like jetty work doing hangers aswell as hangers 100ft high aswell wasn't supposed to but I went up for the experience I want to be a ******* good scaffolder just need a company to take me on! Al travel the globe doing it got a lot of respect for scaffolders its ******* hard graft and that's what I am good at just need the oppertunity to show them am better than a ticket and that am capable of doing more than just straight forward bird cages and independents. I may have6 months under my belt but am keen as and ive done jobs that are part 2 advanced work and done them well. Am a great labourer aswell I run round like a headless chicken grabbing gear quicker the job is done quicker we go home! Thought scaffolding companies live ex forces am **** at cv's Id rather let my hand and skills do the talking! Hopefully someone reads this and wants to take me on coz at this rate al be working in a packaging factory boxing fish fingers with a £1200 ticket thats worth **** all!!!!

Look at doing your part 2 most firms will will expect to put yourself through it. Try PTS that'll open your options. Sign up to an agency that offers all trades on the railways, it's good monies all round. Hate to say it but scaffold, ain't the be all and end all, it's a great opportunity to see things different and can open others doors on the way.

Good luck

keep at it mate something will turn up it allways does

advertise yourself as lorry driver with 7.5 tonne licence plus scaffold loading & labouring experience.surprise them later that you have part 1.
good luck mate.
