Second Hand Gear

That has had me wondering for the longest time, I could never work that out. Must be time jobs though, has to be as I know we can't go home till the wrists are bust. We have seen it a few times when the client wants us there just for cover or whatever and are happy to pay top dollar to have you on stand by, couldn't do it for a living though.

Sometimes you are as well letting them go. I thought schools were finished?

Not down here aom,i think they think we're all backward,or just thick:suspicious::laugh:

And Ben Flynn would use it by 8.15am, with a quick break in the middle to admire his reflection in a window.

Ah sorry I can slip these poor jokes in practically anywhere.....

Aom i have seen jobs with 20+ lads just wondering around most the day doing sweet fu ck all day , and everything is on a contract price , yet the scaffold company has massive overheads unbelievable amounts of gear on site , so where do they make their profit ?

haha, we only got half way through our school building's programme when the recession hit, been waiting a few years for them to complete it.

I have seen it myself and not just with scaffolding and the honest answer is I don't know. When it's a building firm you can say well there must be another arm or site making a fortune to cover this lot but a scaffold firm is different

that depends aom am pritty sure speedier up here are making nothing really and other depos are hoding them above water for the now maby until they get establshed up here i dont know thev got a larl yard behind a wagon companie and i sh1t tou not its about 3 mby 4 wagon bays wide and half a bay deep thats there yard there nothing in it at all like but must be doing something right.

I know some of the PC's are pricing work between a 5 and 10% loss just to get it then squeeze all the subbies to try and make a profit but can't figure out how that works for the scaffs.

crnt see that working much on front and back and what have you but on big jobs few lifts thell make there profit on the adapatations am i right in thinking this

Everyone will be different but for me the cash is front end loaded on the initial erect, the hire is priced just enough to get it but annoy the hell out of them so they give it me back in a timely fashion so I can go build it else where. The adaptions for me just keep the boy's going in graft and not much else.

You Must Be Talking About Interserve, They Are A Fekking Nightmare, They Are Taking Jobs For Pennies And Haselling The Subbies To Hell, But If You Arent Making Money You Aint Gonna Work There Are You? Well I Wouldnt.(And Dont)

Talk is cheap Gerscaff but I honestly believe I would rather sit in the yard than do it for nothing.

our gaffer thinkgs out flags beyter than any 1 eles and i asum his thinkgin is if he breaks even on that job the flag will get him another wether or not it work i dont know lol what percent of you custom lads is private and not thrw a roofer plaster just the old dear ring for scaffold ?

I Have Always Said It Buddy, If Im Not Making Money Im As Well Not Making Money In The House And Iv Always Stuck To It (More Or Less) Some Jobs Iv Done Cheap But Made Something, Other Jobs Iv Done Quite Well Out Of Just The Luck Of The Draw I Suppose.

It's ok you sitting in the yard, but you need to have the boys out making their wages at least, otherwise you'd need to let them go:(

The point of going to work is to make money, and the point of taking all the extra sh!t of being a boss is to make a decent wage for yourself I always thought was the idea! If you ain't making anything, what's the point of all the extra hassle?

Very rarely get a full private job but do get the odd one. Struck one today who's son is an apprentice joiner and wanted his facia's painting. He compared the price of the painter who was going to do it from a ladder and the price of a scaffold which was cheaper and just got his son to replace the timber instead. He liked the job so much he decided to do the back and front as well which was a good size beamed over a couple of lower roofs then canted in at the top for a mansard roof. The truth is though, privates are dead round here at the moment it's all roofers and builders.

True, but it would have to get pretty bad as I feel we have loads of time in the bank we have been that busy and when you are as small as I am it's not that hard to cover a wage. Fingers crossed and touch wood and all that.

Got 8 at the moment, growing steadily.
