Wind brings down scaffolding at school

Tamworth Herald

LAST Thursday's high winds brought scaffolding crashing down at the Landau Forte QEMS site in Ashby Road.

No-one is believed to have been injured in the incident, although a car belonging to a member of staff was badly damaged.

A statement from headteacher Rob Fell said: "During the extreme weather on Thursday, November 22, a section of scaffolding was blown down, damaging a car. Thankfully no-one was injured in this serious incident which we have reported to the H.S.E. for investigation.

"All remaining scaffolding has been removed from the site pending the outcome of the investigation."

The Health and Safety Executive confirmed they were investigating.

Also on Thursday, a tree fell close to flats in Arden Close, Amington.

The tree, a silver birch in front of the flats, was uprooted in the high winds as the ground was waterlogged.

It was left leaning against the flats on the council-owned land.

The tree team from Tamworth Borough Council were called out and safely removed the tree. No properties were damaged in the incident.

Funny how a tree blows down and it will be classed as an act of God but mention scaffolding and some one will no doubt swing for it.

That's why insurance companies keep referring to 'Acts of God'. They don't want p1ss off the big fella

It's much easier to rely on the HSE taking someone tp the cleaners

It's funny but true as far as I can see. All local councils were forced to do a tree inspection for every tree on council land and still they call it an act of God. Probably just more expensive to take a local authority to court as a scaffold outfit with limited funds to throw at a defence.
