Who should pay for Training whiles working for a company

Is it your employers responsibility to proved relevant up to date training to the employee when your cards expire?

Without a shadow of a doubt. Even the so called self employed boys must be trained.

Yes and to inform you of all changes to the current guidance and legislation to enable you to carry out your job correctly.
 
That's a good point Allan. No doubt most will think the companies should and you will not be surprised if I tell you I think the individual should but what do other's do?
 
What we are looking at hear is your card expires on a given date whiles you are working for a company & have been doing so for the last 3 years.
Would you expect the company to pay for your training and pay you for the days you where on training??

Suppose it depends on if your CIS or PAYE
Scaff38 would you also expect your employer to pay for your driving licence etc as well?
By the way, we do pay for the training & card renewals and a basic rate for the training, travelling costs, mind you if you leave soon after we would want our money back:blink1:
Some firms do & some dont, each to their own

If I join a company with all my certs & cards up to date and 3 years later they expire I would expect the company to send me on the training required to re-new them, I am talking about big oil & gas companies hear.
If I wanted to take a new training course that had no benefits to the company just to myself I would be the one to pay for the training.

The 1st post was asking if the employer is responsible for the training, I think yes.
 
I agree no matter what type of firm you are on. We do the renewals as well but sometimes it feels like spoon feeding them as no one paid for any training or renewal for me.
 
all training should be paid for by your employer as long as its relevant to the role you play in the company. this does not stand for self employed, as self employed means you look after your self... it might be worth giving training 2000 a ring they can help out with funding and stuff

I pay for ALL my own tickets, CIS or PAYE.
Silly? Ofcourse, but this way i owe no one nothing and i come and go as i please.

Employers are fickle in who and why go on certain courses... alot of the time you'll be pissing in the wind waiting to get put on a course - unless your employer NEEDS you to have that extra ticket.
It'll be for their benefit - not yours.

Just save up and get your own, afterall, in the long run your the one who will lose out waiting for a freebe. ;)

And, again, don't forget that if you do pay for your own you can offset the cost against your tax - CIS or PAYE.

As an outsider looking in, if the training is required by your company, then I think they should pay and pay you the days you are doing it. Perhaps something should be written into a contract that if you leave within, say 6 months (or 12 even), you have to pay back the cost of the course, or a % of it.

That's up to the employer though, to get up to scratch on how employment is dealt with.

Across any industry, if you are good to your staff, they'll return that with loyalty and good work.
