Things are so bad with scaffolding rates digs and travel, every one is just ripping each other off things need to change and fast.

Your bang on Wrigers, but i think its gonna get a lot worse before it gets any better.Am curious as to what the other scaffs on the forum think.

the more work picks up the less chance employers can fill jobs for pennys and will have to up the rate . now we have this forum we could all get together and set our own minimum wage and refuse to work for less . i know it will never happen but it would be nice

The money, in real terms, is definitely less than I was paid 20 years ago. Westminster Scaffold, 1986, average £110pd. If you add twenty five years of inflation to that figure it doesn't take an Einstein to work out that I am right!

The ideology sounds good Alan666,but on a practical level it just aint gonna work.Theres always somebody who will work for peanuts, especially the young guys who are just starting out ,and i say that with the greatest of respect, youve got to start somewhere, and if youve never had it you aint gonna miss it if you get my drift.

Bang on mickbone, remember back in the early eighties when people used to ask me what i did for a living, and i told them i was a scaffolder. They used to always assume i was minted, and they werent wrong.Happy Days.

i know it wouldnt work , but it would be good .at least with this we can find out whos paying what and who the p!sstakers are . whos good to work for and whos not

Yea totally aree with that mate,if only.

Allan I agree but it'll last as long as this thread.

In any business it's a gamble and at the moment so is a permanent job.

I've found that you'll have money when everyone else has money. We provide a service that the public will use if thay need it. Most of the time they'll put it on hold until things have got to be done.

And health and safety makes it harder. As someone said with the scaff step firms still expect the same output!

No one likes change but this game has been turned upside down and i'm still trying to find our feet.

I wish things would get better, we all work hard for the reputation that scaffolders have the hardest job. Keep it up and the harvest will be rich.

Good luck

Micky bones now theres a name i will not forget.
The manager on the avon mouth bridge . we first met on flooks micky you were a good un back then mate. they say time is a healer micky boy.;)

This has all started due to agencys. They have got to gready. Wee need to black list all the bad agencys as if they cant get the men tbe rates have to change or they will loose the work. The only problem with this is wee need to stick together.

We should all dig are heals in to these rates there is money out there employers just don't want to part with it, they would rather pay peanuts and get a load ov monkeys than employ good hard working scaffs that could do the job in less time and to the right standards of todays scaffolding world. Employers want us to comply with all todays rules and regs but then turn a blind eye when there is money involved, but if the scaffolder gets caught out it's the scaffolder that is down the road with not a pot to pssi in
