Hi guys,

Just looking for some advice about advertising online. I'm only a small firm looking for domestic extentions work and the like. People have told me about facebook, google places, twitter, yell and a website. Whats the best way to go?

Also, sorry if this is the wrong place to post the thread. :)

Hello mate.
The good thing about the Internet is that its free to use (for the most part).

Theres ofcourse, FaceBook which is the big one..., YouTube and Twitter.
But you have other means like maybe Neil (who runs this Forum), Dan (ScaffMag.com) or even speak to Stewart (SCCR.org) - those guys would have ALOT of contacts and are all good as gold.

Twitter is the flavour of the month nowadays and EVERYONE seems to advertise there.
Its quick, easy and free to use.

Advertise, advertise, advertise!
Thats what its all about. :)

Good luck mate.
Jay.

Web presence is important nowadays and if you don't have a website, you should get one. Costs can range tremendously, so if you have a little technical ability, I'd suggest building your own, in either wordpress or joomla, which can be mastered with a little time and effort.

Do as Jason says and get on Facebook, twitter, G+, LinkedIn and youtube. Make simple videos of work you're doing to put there. And also Freeindex and get customers to write reviews.

However, if you do all these things, you have to be prepared to post and be active, else there's no point.

I see so many inactive twitter accounts, where a couple of tweets are made then never again. I wouldn't bother following a dead account and nor would anyone else. But it does take time to get engaging with others - don't be scared to strike up conersations.

lol You can begin by following Jason and me :)

Website is a start i use webs.com easy to use and cheap enough probably not the greatest in the world but does the job London scaffolding Hire Company Reliable,Professional,Competitive.
and like the others say facebook,Twitter ETC

have pop up pages on porn sites.. lets face it.. which websites are visited the most online....

I'm probably a bit of a dinosaur but put yourself in a potential small clients position and ask yourself would you rely on google to get you a descent scaffold company or would you listen to the guys you have appointed to fix your roof or whatever?

I may be wrong but for the small firms it's a total waste, even advertising in the papers however local is a waste of time. Sign boards and quality work brings them in droves though. ;)

Agree with signs on jobs, signs on lorry ETC But google and yellow pages bring work in IMO and word of mouth but you need to get work in in the first place so you have to advertise i think more and more people are getting there own trades to do there building work and phoning around for the best quotes.

Fair enough orss, just don't see it that way to be honest, could just be geography but the t'interweb is pants for bringing in the jobs especially domestic. We are all different and stand or fall by our beliefs, just have to find what works for you.

Thing is down here theres 2 scaff firms in every street where i am in romford theres about 30 firms all going for that 1 job every day and things are getting worse so you have to do every bit of advertising you can get weather it be t shirts lorrys boards and internet just to get a look in IMO

Fair enough, round here there is only a couple but it's all relative. Small domestic jobs are dead as every man and his dog now has a bit of system and doing it themselves. Think we are going to have to concentrate on the more specialist stuff where real scaffs are required and reputation means everything.
