With ref to the threads posted by Pacificaccessfiji, i am totaly appalled by some of the comments posted in relation to the job opportunity that have well and truly been scuppered by the small minded minority that replied with sarcastic and childish remarks, i hope that you all realize that due to those comments, pacificaccessfiji most likey have bined all and any CVs from any members on this site, there are alot of professional people here and no doubt a few that may well be unemployed at this time and would have jumped at the chance of working on a future prestige project overseas myself included, all i can say now is an appology to pacificaccessfiji might well be in order from the persons responsible. in future please do not post comments that could and has seriously jepodise the livelyhood of personnell within our industry.

Big Bad Bob

I was going to let this pass but where I come from we call a spade a shovel,I did not join this forum to find myself a job,nor have I worked abroad for the past twenty years and come home expecting to walk into a job.If you class me as part of "a small minded minority"so be it,but allow me to class you as a "self seeking oportunist".
In my opinion this "job" looked like a windup from the word go,with no mention of qualifications required apart from being over 50. years. No Company,or direct contact information supplied

pacificaccessfiji states "We had thought that by contacting access professionals by using a forum such as this would bypass the need to use expensive recruitment agencies"
Cutting corners at recruitment stage does not bode well, what other savings are to be made on the project ???
He furthet states"However judging by the comments and indeed the CVs we have received we are guilty of a poor error of judgement and may have well advertised in a pub in UK"
I Dont think he was that taken with your CV as he had recieved it and replied to you before any adverse comments were made in the thread

I dont like to see any man out of work and I wish you well in your search for work, but please do not take out your frustrations on the members of this forum. In my opinion the primary purpose of the forum is to give a voice to the scaffolders of the UK,warts and all.

We had thought that by contacting access professionals by using a forum such as this would bypass the need to use expensive recruitment agencies.
However judging by the comments and indeed the CVs we have received we are guilty of a poor error of judgement and may have well advertised in a pub in UK.
So back to the tried and tested albeit expensive recruitment consultants.

Steve Gregory
Talk about Age Discrimination....

Scaffarobo
You get what you pay for . I can only imagine the age thing is incase your new recruit cops of with your misses . Bit sad really .

Olongapo

I should think that is exactly the kind of comment that they are referring to. Isnt it about time we started acting professionally in front of potential recruiters and moved away from the "oi luv you want a bit of my pole" kind of mentality that scaffolders have been associated with for generations?
Start acting professionally and start getting paid professionally?
Just a thought!

With due respect to you Rigger, Bigbadbob seemed to be making a general statement and not making a personal attack on anyone in the way you have by calling him "a self seeking opportunist".
You say you havent spent the last 20 years working abroard maybe its a case of sour grapes and "been nowhere done nothing syndrome?"
It would appear that many people do join this forum to search for work or progress in their chosen careers. That is why the jobs thread exists on this site. Good luck to all in finding work or reaching the top of this profession!!

As a new member I am impressed with this forum.
It should prove to be an useful tool with which to improve conditions for scaffolders everywhere and to give help and tips to all.
Please dont let it turn into a forum of petty bickering and point scoring amogst us.

Fredscaff - await your input mate

To be fair, to both parties a forum is accessible to all sorts of people - I've seen posts from highly educated people with great ideas and suggestions, i have also seen posts from people that have obviously signed up to the forum to wind people up or to try to be funny. that is the nature of a forum.

A CV however is intended to show an individual in their best light, showcasing their ability and experience.

Any company that discriminates against an individual because of actions of others is not a company I would be looking to work for anyway.

Each application should be looked at on its own merits. Just because one or two raise a question or make a mocking comment surely should not affect the application of another. It's the equivalent of saying all football fans are thugs and hooligans because of the actions of a small minority.

Personally I didn't see anything inflamatory in the comments to justify the response from the company (unless there were more comments not included in the quotes above) but do agree that members should consider what they are typing in certain threads on the forum. There are plenty of threads to have your say and have a laugh, there are others that should be kept serious - such as the work being carried out by Scaffrag on everyone's behalf.

Just my views, from a none-scaffolder stance. Now then, shake hands and big group hug for everyone involved.

Well said grim 72, but just for info should that not have said ragscaff?lol

Hey don't be discriminating me coz of my dyslexia. I'm sure he won't mind  Besides he doesn't know if he's coming or going anyway

I come in the morning when brushing me teeth & go at night when I have a s**t before I go to sleep:nuts::(
