my mates just came back from south west wales and the news isnt good.travelling men on for interserve are giving local address.
i personally went out on strike twice against the use of foreign labour,and the breaching of the national agreement that is the "blue book".i never went out and risked my own job for the agreement to be ripped apart by my own kind.lodge allowance and the other conditions have been hard faught over the years,to let this happen plays into the hands of the big bosses.when we loose these rights we will never get them back.

Good point daftscaff, it's a tough one with so many men chasing the work. Use it or loose it though.
 
travelling lads dont wana be looseing there lodge exspecially on blue book by the time youve paid your digs sent money home and gone out a few times your working to live
i no some one on dungerness for capes how ante getting lodge when he used to cause works quiet he either gets laid off or lumps it were just numbers at the end of the day
even the local labour.
 
Times are tough Dico and things are going to get tougher if listening to the news coming from Ireland is anything to go by.
 
this is becoming more prevelent of late,not just scaffs painters blasters laggers too.when a down man appears likely you get them giving local addresses,shocking,was chatting to lad who was going pembroke next week on a local address,if they dont get their lodge then where dose this money end up i wonder????

do yous think the power and refinary circut is in decline???i see over the last couple of years benifits being slowly but surely eroded from the men esp the traveling man.
 
good point celticbhoy were does the money go i take my hat off to the lads that have familys that have to work away from home if your single it has its benefits lol but you still need your beer tokens lets face it if your away from home its only the local pub.
 
you ken the score dico,the lodge is starting to be taxed now mate,only matter of time before they try take it away,when they do that thel lose up to half of the transient workforce i think,cant see me going 300miles to work then pay lodge with no subsidy not on your nelly.

The outcome will probably be, big job start up, local labour only. no lodge. Eastern europeans flock into area, employed as local labour on minium wage, job finishes, move on to next local area and in the process drive the wage rates down further.
 
I think there is probably truth in what you say brandy.:suspicious:
 
hinkley point power station ,after the shutdown lodge is then taken off them lads who want to stay ,this has come from a managment team that took over from myself ,when you have travelling men working on these sites ,you over recover on your project work so that you can cover the lodge ,maintanence crews are already in your pelims.
and as for interserve down at pembroke its all down to the rates that they have put in
and trying to cover the job with local labour ,ones it goes to day work then it will open up for the travelling boys ,good luck to you all as i cannot get a sniff down there im from newport not swansea . and as for lads from up north down at pembroke ,they actualy live down there with there partners ,at least the ones i know of . and those of you taking max (travel) whats it like working along side lads who are getting lodge .
scaffs are there own worst enemeis .by the way thanks for all your phone calls down at pembroke ,scaffolding is just one big roundabout from one p-----d off scaff.
 
heard the same bout pembroke ricardo,trying to keep to local labour,in all my time that has never worked so cant see that changing overnight.would never dream of taking job with no lodge mate,and the ones that do will destroy the job your 100% correct scaffs at times are there worst own enemys.
