As the title says.

There is not a shortage of scaffolders right now, and hasn't been for quite a while.

How will these centres survive, will they just keep churning people out the doors that aren't needed or will they and the NASC just decide to invent a couple of new tickets to keep the money coming in?

There is not a shortage of scaffolders but there is a shortage of good men that can scaffold.

Perhaps the emphasis should have been on quality rather than quantity?

In my experience firms only send lads to collage because the contracts they win need carded men. I think we all agree that you only need to attend the course to gain the tickets.

The Cash cow of registering for CSCS,CISRS,CPCS and the initial payment of registering to this 'Lost Cause' has been truly milked, what next? new accreditation, card renewal after 3 year? then Yearly. card checks every 3 months at graft, what a joke.......cards out of date (Slime Brickies) nowt said, then the 'Owld chestnut' i will bring my card tomorrow to check. Scaffolder without any card or missing PPE is history though. Cents.

That is... unfortunately.... my experience too.

im sure some bright spark at nasc towers will think of ways to keep the revenues churning out, lets not be surprised if its not sooner rather than later card refreshers on the way.

you no it celticbhoy!!!! these centres and personell staff dont run or work on nothing:laugh:

Should be tighter controlled and directly taught under the hse, their is a lot to learn in our game and if we make it harder to get the tickets,it gets rid of the sh1te,makes it more specialised and therefore makes the money go up,I'm not scared of being judged on my ability !

If CISRS are the regulating body for the training centres isn't there a conflict of interests?

Yes Swifty by what im seeing the answer is yes....

When they first bought the training courses in it was a privilege to be sent on a course. Companies wouldnt send men who missed shifts or were not interested. The more dedicated men went on the courses and of course a few bad apples slipped through the net.
Nowadays people serving prison sentences can be sent on courses on release and companies have to send employees for training.
In my opinion all training centres should be closed while there is a surplus of scaffolders and money from government go to training things in short supply like doctors etc
After a year or two the situation should be assessed and if there is a shortage of trained scaffolders then reopen one or two of the centres. I know this wont be fair on a keen youngster but it might make the wages increase and make our trade a good one again.

I bloody hope that doesn't happen, people who are part way through their training have a deadline to work to (which I don't necessarily agree with) and have to complete certain things by certain dates or things can expire! You'd see a lot of young uns loose out on what they'd already achieved.

Plus NASC rules on companies are that a certain % must be part 2 or better, and yes I know not everyone obeys the rules, but just on that rule it won't happen.

a trainning centre the other month had what they call a adult class this is where the instructor loves it cos he knows these men dont have to be taught how to scaffold as they know!!! crazy yes but this is great britain!!! anything can happen!!! when your sitting in a classroon talking about what the weathers like and what hobbies you do to waste time beats me when you finish the days chores at 2pm and then have to stay untill 430 coz your not allowed to leave beats me and then a scaffold job is thrown in thats nothing to do with the course cause lads are board and theres time to waste. theres only so many fags that everybody can smoke so it beats me these instructors have there hands tied coz they need paying each week and dont wana upset the apple cart but yes perhaps we only need a certain amount of trainning for the adult classes c the bubbles gana burst soon it cant keep going how many scaffolders does great britain need!!!!

I,ve never known so many scaffolders as there is now,in the old days only the best young un's got sent to the ncc for training, nowadays it's all about numbers, the same goes for firms, everyone's got their own firm, nothing wrong with that, but with so many firms and an abudance of men it's going to drive down prices and devaluate our worth.

Already has. So why do so many people want to join our sh!tty trade all of a sudden is the big question?

the courses probably have to be so many hours taught and thats why you cant go early i wuld imagine

The men on the payroll at the CISRS/NASC.

They could go back to what they were doing before they jumped on the bandwagon I suppose.

Or they could work as scaffold inspectors inspecting all the s.hitty scaffolds out there.
