Back in my days with SGB they had trackers on many of their trucks and they resulted in the recovery of many a stolen load.
I have trackers on all the trucks and buses here with a full live tracking system on screen. This helps keep track of the trucks but I also use it to cross reference the labour hours against the time the bus gets to site and when it leaves.
A useful tool if you use it correctly

It may be a useful tool Alan. But did you know trackers are for stolen recovery and not for playing big brother. By law, if you wish to "cross reference" you need the employee's permission to do so. In the eyes of the law, you are spying on employees and need written consent for you to do so.
Just a word for the wise on this. If they are clued up you could have a law suit on your hands. Especially if you deduct money due to late arrival on site etc.

UK law is a different matter. I am not using it in the UK.
When used for tracking bus to and from place of business it is used to determine the hours to be paid and not to determine deductions due to lateness. In our instance if the man is not on the bus he won't be at site and thus won't be paid.

Totally agree it is a big deterrent. We used to charge £1 per mile for out of hrs use.
