Taz, a 12-year-old Alsatian cross, has performed heroics ever since he was paired with deaf Mags Adams-Aston, 48, from Coventry.
As well as performing rescues and fighting crime, Taz alerted Mrs Adams-Aston’s husband, Mike, when she had a fall. She said: ‘He is my best friend. I’d be lost without him.’
'Before I had Taz, there was no way Mike would have heard me falling through the kitchen ceiling in the middle of the night – which is exactly what happened one evening.
'I had to haul myself out of that hole and I ended up with a massive bruise for my trouble.
Mrs Adams-Aston said Taz was very loving and had a strong personality.
'When greeting me, he always tries to talk by opening his mouth in conversational movements without making sounds, which I’ve never seen another dog do,' she added.
