Three arrested after Wordsley metal theft

4:08pm Thursday 23rd June 2011

THREE men are being questioned by Dudley Police today following the theft of scaffolding from a building site in Wordsley overnight.

Police arrested the men aged 20, 24 and 24 on suspicion of theft following a brief chase through Kingswinford, which began when the suspects were seen to leave the scene of the reported crime shortly after 12.20am this morning (Thursday).

Police were called to the old Wordsley Hospital site on Kirkpatrick Drive at 12.17am when a witness spotted intruders on the site removing scaffolding.

Officers followed a Ford Fiesta car, which eventually came to a stop and the men left the vehicle on Windermere Drive.

One of the 24-year-old's was also arrested on suspicion of taking a vehicle without authority and driving whilst disqualified.

Sergeant Chris Fox, from Dudley Police, said: "We continue to tackle metal theft across the area and officers aim to respond quickly and effectively where such incidents occur in order to detain people suspected of involvement in such crimes."

All three men remain in police custody for questioning

got a call today at 4.30 from a roofer we do work for, asking if we could go out and take the scaffold down off some doomers he had just leaded because he would not sleep all weekend in case someone nicked it.

They should have wire lashed planks to the roof and stuck a scaff tag on the door, and pretended to be a mobile hop-up...
