and not a hi-vis, harness, gloves or eye-ware in sight. However did they manage?

Lol - I can still remember when we didnt h/r anything under6'6" & then it was only single....got the right hump when told we had to do double lol

Great footage
You can tell the team are struggling to wear their hard hats in this film (fecking hard hats )
never mind the ***** we have to go through every time we look a Job
This when you could trust your employees, and work mates
Look forward to more history ,in the world of the scaffolder

Me too, two board trot when it was going up. One board when it was coming down, specially on price. Getting high hemps off a clip wrapped off 3ft off the ground, with your legs wrapped round the tube - and no fookin harness's. happy days!

Your post just struck a memory of back in 1970 on a Saturday morning on a building adjacent the empty plot cleared to later become the Nat West Tower in the city. 4 scaffs (myself included) each 2 lifts apart, chaining up boards to sheet out the top two lifts. Each scaff straddling the ledgers, taking the board poked up from below and passing it up to the man above. No platform, harness, hi-vis, hard hat or gloves. I think we were on double time at about 16/- (shillings) an hour. How the world changes.

theres no awards for being stupid enough to work like that anymore. health and safety is the best thing that ever happened to the game. wouldnt get me working unsafe not with a two year old girl who relies on me.

The guy's merely reminiscing about another time that pre dated the health and safety revolution. Nothing wrong with that.
No prizes for stating the obvious either.

then why are you stating the obvious stonedrose? my post wasnt aimed at you it was only my tuppins worth son.

Nae bother Dad. It's tuppence by the way, as in two pence.
Nee naw.

well its no by the way,not "nae" but hey everyone likes to sound more intelligent on the internet for some reason its a strange thing that happens the world over. personally if i get the jist of what someones saying then its fine for me.

I don't need to 'sound' more intelligent my man. Some of us just are.

Quite right Jigga, no-one should ever work like that. But that was the we were expected to work, as a trade back then. now when I enter site I observe the maximum H&S and enjoy the life I have - remembering those friends and colleagues that are no longer with us due to site 'accidents'.
Anyone not taking advantage of all the safety equipment available now is just an idiot
