Hi lads, any of you on UTR and get your tax deducted at 20% but pay your own NI and then claim tax back in April??I have just been on this UTR for 4 motnhs and told I need to do a tax return.anyone know best website to use,ive heard its dead easy to do online without paying an accountant but I haven't done it before as allways worked PAYE and not at firm anymore to ask.
cheers in advance

You need to look at the hmrc website, request a government gateway password (takes about a week), then you do it yourself thru the hmrc site.

Takes me 2-3 hours on a bad day, collating your receipts etc, fairly straight forward.

You'll need your PAYE P45/P46 for the codes when you were employed as well.

Firms can do it for you, but ll charge (see ad on rh of page, Brian Alfred etc)

The online forms aren't too bad, I normally do the totals (mileage at rate, fares, tools etc) before you start, add a summary of them in the notes section, takes 7 working days from submission to payout normally.
