Hi Podger,
I make it £400... which is actually 20%... much cheaper than many competitors (often mentioned here) charging 28% and higher for the very fast turnaround (which is really only based on overpaid tax rather than expenses incurred). Please stop including the VAT as PART of our fee... it isn't and there's nothing we can do about it being charged. Lobby your MP. We all have to pay VAT, it's one of the scourges of life.
I don't know how much you pay your mechanic to service your car but I do know mine wanted to charge as a minimum £350.
We provide a service that one can choose to use. We deduct our fee from the rebate because administratively, it's easier. We could send the whole rebate and an invoice for the fee to be paid... would that make it not coming from the rebate? Of course not!
The thumbs up from HMRC is massively important. You all know about companies that have promised large rebates, absolutely no mention of evidence and even fees of £50.
However, after a year or so, when HMRC decide to open investigations, that company will be long gone and you will be stuck with owing money back, minus any fee that was taken.
We voluntarily worked with HMRC to ensure that the returns we do are as safe and secure (from ever being called into question).
Excerpt from our site:
During 2013, Bettertax voluntarily went through the very rigorous HMRC compliance process. Our business practices in completing tax returns was completely checked. HMRC have approved our working standards and we are proud to say that we are now one of very few tax agents considered ‘Low Risk’, meaning very few tax agents can offer better security for your refund claim or tax return than us.
“I am happy to say that Bettertax's processes and procedures put them in a much better position to ensure accurate Returns”
HM Inspector of Taxes
This is important. There really are not many tax agents out there that have been through this. To be recognised as "low risk" by HMRC is a huge deal - we're really proud of it.
