I worked on a job that was run by Italians. There was a piece of **** attempt at a scaffolding built by them on the gable-end, the gear looked like the stuff market traders build their stalls with. Anyway, the fittings they used (doubles and swivels) were just like that.
We scaffolded the rest of the building properly and if I remember correctly, I think I used some of them one day when I couldn't find any other fittings.

Just really old. 1/2 inch ers
Sure I've seen some like that rusted up in a corner of the yard
