boss is going to burst a few blood vessels when he finds out either way so am thinking of registering business and getting jobs in until he finds out, just wondering if my tax code will change or if he will get anything official about it, woundnt take any money from business, so dont think anything would change, just looking for someone to shine some light on this!

If your not taking his clients away why would he mind? If he's any good he should pat you on the back and wish u all the best

Shouldn't affect your code mate and the hmrc won't make themselves busy as long as you pay ur rates etc

Sorry to be blunt mate just man up and tell him once uve got things together and ready to go on your own

Not sure if I understand your question.but you can be employed & self employed at the same time so your current boss shouldnt need to know but tbh if your honest with him & as long as you dont try & steal either his clients or materials he'll prob be ok with it.....he may even be able to help you out with work & co tacts etc...there will be quite a lot for you to deal with so having someone on the end of a phone to help with questions & queries is invaluable, never burn your bridges cos if it dont work out for you, you may have to ask for your old job back

check your contract of employment most state you can't work for somebody else without your bosses permission. I know of two brickies with 20 years service in who were sacked for building a garden wall at weekend no redundancy pretty sure this applies to working rule agreement (pink book)

Buy him breakfast one morning and have a chat ,
Tell him what you plan to do and would like to keep on working for him as long as possible ,

If he is really busy he won't want to loose you ,
And he may even be able to pass all the small stuff that he is not interested in .

You could take work of him on a labour only basis during the week ,
Although he may only want to give it to you on a price basis ,

He WILL find out sooner or later so honesty is the best policy

A lad did this to me, my cousin actually. Worked for me for about 2-3 years, then gave me a weeks notice and left. Which I thought was abit ******. If he had gave me more notice and was up front I wouldnt of minded. I looked him up as he was ltd and it turned out he had registered his business about 4 months earlier than he claimed so not really on good terms anymore. Wouldn't of been a problem if he was up front. Some employees don't realise how much some of their bosses bend over backwards to help them

I realise just how far mine goes for the boys that's why I turn in and am upfront with him

Don't get me wrong I've fuked off on big firms once I've been wronged in the past but on a small firm it's a lot more personal so it's out of all decency that your honest with him

Most small companies would welcome another new company that they can trust and work with.

Just remember he hasn't stayed in business this long by being a fool.

Your not wrong Russ I've always said 100% I couldn't do it myself but it's only recently I've seen all that goes on behind the scenes

Now it's 1000%

set up about 8 years ago when I was made redundant, one of my old gaffers was always wanting us to do some labour only work which we do every now again helps on the flat days, then we even got a couple of other firms asking us because they heard through the grapevine, so now we do all our own stuff and can pass the bigger jobs on if we can't do them and can also jump in with someone else when we go quite. All I can say is just remember your own firms jobs come first as we find ones we do a few days we get asked to stay for weeks which then turn to months and so on.
