Nothing to do with the scaffold company although the sign can be seen
HIGH winds left a bank holiday music festival in chaos after a marquee was blown on to the roof of a popular South Tyneside pub.

Strong winds along the coast blew the marquee from its site, and it landed on the roof of The Sand Dancer pub in Sea Road, South Shields.

Customers were evacuated from the pub before firefighters used hacksaws and Stanley knives to dismantle the marquee.

Measuring 10m by 15m, the marquee was meant to accommodate dozens of music fans.

Almost a dozen firefighters involved in the operation on Saturday afternoon gained access to the marquee via a first-floor window.

An aerial ladder platform was also used to retrieve the damaged marquee, and bring it down to safety.

Numerous local bands were set to play at The Sand Dancer over the weekend.

Music fans were planning to crowd into the large marquee to enjoy some of the best of local bands.

But strong winds along the coast blew over the marquee, which was supplied by North East company Astley Marquees.

The bank holiday musical special was due to start at 6pm on Sunday.

But the event was quickly rearranged inside the venue, and the music went on.

A spokesman said on the pub’s website: “The music festival will be held in the bar due to the problems with the marquee.”
