The only thing that I don't agree with and in truth dont understand is when you are on a Scaff step putting in the handrails above for the next lift in accordance to sg4.10 you still have to clip on,

Now when you think about it as you are on the step the ledger acts as a single handrail and they recommend that you clip on on the inside ledger because you can slip or fall off a Scaff step but as im sure you know if that did happen then you would still fall on the lift therefore the harness has no effect

Tell the truth it's ideal for the above better than one board across the handrails but it contradicts it self in the sense that a minimum working platform is 600mm ie 3 boards wide but the step is just about 2 boards wide if that!!

The best blokes on here ( and that I know in fact ) is daroscaff and zukzny they are the only scaffolders that I know that fully understands and works to sg4.10 good boys too I myself am a bit of a rebel (like about 99% of scaffs) and just smash it up lol

Cape working practise goes beyond SG:04 regs.
100% clip on at all times, even after double Handrail and Toeboards are in place. Until the job has been tagged.

Dont they practice that in Australia for Capes also Fred?

Bit fooked on price then jay lol

Very.
Also rather difficult in attempting to walk materials more then 2m along your already fully Boarded/Handrailed Scaffold too, lol.

Clip on, clip off, clip on, clip off, clip on, clip off, clip on, clip off, clip on, clip off - total distance travelled: 20ft, lol. :D

Yes mate. 100% tie off at all times even 2 inches off the ground. 1 metre lifts and no harness are also on some jobs.
In the Gulf its generally 100% tie off even on fully boarded/handrailed lifts for ALL workers. Management have to wear a harness on site even if like me the last time they went up in the air was when Gazza scored that wonder goal against the jocks at Euro '96.:D

Been a bit out of touch with SG4 since the early days. Would I be correct in saying that SG4:10 still allows scaffolders to work without being hooked on once a "safe scaffolder area" with sufficient boards and single handrail has been created?

Yes, but you still need to clip on when working below the handrail to do up a swivel on the brace or whatever, punting gear up the job requires a safe zone fully boarded and double hand railed if you have to reach down to pick up the gear.

I must admit Bobby, I have discussed this with a few safety men and after explaining my thoughts on it they have been happy to allow us to do it without clipping on as long as we were boxed in with trannies and ledgers. I think some get round it with the short tail.

Ur lucky then al all the safety boys I've come across have been complete w@nkers none of them have clearly not been on the tools ive been told to clip on whilst standing in a kicker, bending over whilst doing a toe board up (even tho its obviously double handrails, fully boarded etc and the best one was imagine an independent 200ft long we had to strike it in sections for whatever reason but any way so we've blocked off the section were doing and as we are going tea I've jumped over the stop ends (as there was no ladder access) I even clipped on looked a right bam pot as I've done it the site manager starts screaming " I see u again your off site" now that says it all mate tbh

I've met a few of these guys as well Bobby, and there is nothing more frustrating when you can't make them see sense. I just feel, if you can talk to most in a sensible professional manner and explain your reasons for making the choices you make, it can sometimes come back round in your favour. I usually find, the ones that don't understand the word guidance, are the worst offenders for thinking there is no other way than the little pictures in the book.

The ladder access was about 60 ft away, now u which Scaff puts in a ladder access just to strike????? Any takers? I'm sure your meant too but....... Lol

Yeah that is actually spot on al the way that I've got any success out of them is playing to there egos a bit by saying " yes you do have to accept the site rules but are we or are not here to learn from each other " that gets them thinking and by then they have a few more eyes on em there not so quick to make a decision ;)

Also the most common one is glasses, especially in the rain now some see sense and infact I've even had a couple tell me to take them off in the rain (very rare as I'm sure you can imagine lol) but some insist " grin and bare it " I've been told now my argument is even when the weather nice well hot in particular you sweat like mad and even if you stop and wipe em as they say due to ur body temperature they sweat up again but still want them on surely its makes it more dangerous???

Bobby, I Got Punted Last Week From A Barratt Site Standing On A Fully Boarded And Handrailed Lift,The Arrogant Arse Wasn't Having Any Of My Argument Whatsoever. His Attitude Was I Am The One With The Degree Your Argument Is Irrelevant. It Costs Companies Around 250 Bucks Every Time This Happens, Another Money Making Scam Methinks.

At 200ft long, there should have been two pal. You've got safe access either end....:D;):toung:

In fact den just remembered there was no ladders at all!! The only access was thru the building ( luxury flats in woolwich about 2 years ago if memory serves )

They had a really bad accident where a Scaff lost his leg( as I've mentioned on here recently can't remember which thread tho) they went a bit overboard (which u would I suppose) that's why den ;)

Bobby bobby bobby, you walked straight into it again, im pulling your leg....i would have done the same as you. Straight throu the scaff.

GULLABLE.....:laugh::laugh::laugh::love:

Again I can believe that some of the ' saviours of the building game' are more like accountants and city boys,I remember 10 years ago when I started scaffolding even as an 18 yr old scaffolders labourer I got respect not just from the other trades but in particular the office all the managers were old boy chippies or brickies, you could have a row with em, tell em to fook off I even had one by the throat and the next day we shook hands and that was it!

As for barratt sites have you received your letter from em telling you that your barred from all barratt sites forever??? I got one from st George's after I got chucked off!!!!! Talk about salt in the wound hey ger
