Guys,
A contact of mine in Libya, is looking for a Scaffolding Supervisor to work on a Gas plant shutdown project between April and September 2011.
The company is Italian and they are contracting to a client who is German.
I worked for them in 2006 and although not perfect, they wern't too bad.
The project is situated about 900 miles SW of Tripoli, deep in the desert. The camp is small and there's not much there to do in the evenings apart from a coffee bar - no alcohol (officially) - and this closes early ! South African Satelite TV was available when i was there, showing UK sport and a number of English language films, etc, including a very good German porn site if you require it (no women sadly).
Work conditions are as follows:
7 days a week, 10 hours a day.
Flights, visas, internal travel, etc, all paid for by company, but make sure that all you expect is covered (in writing), if they do contact you.
60 days on/20 days off leave cycle.
Day rate will depend on qualifications of candidates and negotiation at the time of interview.
Job is general supervision and guidance to a group of around 20-30 Fillipino/Egyptian/Libyan Scaffolders, or it was when i was there. The Italian company do not really have much idea about scaffolding and the running of such things, but the client does, so that's the reason for employing someone.
When i was there, they had no properly kept tagging system, no logging system, no proper organisation of materials, etc, etc, etc, so i don't know whether what i put in place is still being used, or whether someone will have to re-invent it all, but i am sure things won't be as in the UK !
To be considered, you should have an Advanced Scaffolding card and also previous experience of supervision in a Petro Chemical environment. Without at least these two prerequisites, you will be wasting your time applying. Please attach copies of any certification to the CV at the time of sending.
If you are interested, forward a copy of your CV to me and i'll send it on to the Operations Manager in Tripoli for consideration and he will contact people that he is interested in directly.

r they not loolking for just scaffolders ass well

Extremely doubtful mate.

As Jonny said they use Fillipino/Egyptian/Libyan Scaffolders, which is common in the Middle East - usually with Western management - Although even that is slowly changing.

Guys, please read the original post, it was for a supervisor and i did mention that it would be a position that supervised a Fillipino/Egyptian/Libyan workforce. I'm not sure how much clearer i can make it !
If anyone is interested, please make sure that the CV that you send is in WORD format, as one i have received was in something else and if the guy in Tripoli cannot open it, it will be binned immediately. I've already advised the person involved to submit a new one, so there shouldn't be a problem with his CV, but if you want a chance at it, please make sure the CV is in WORD.
I will probably submit the CV's received over the weekend as i'm returning to the UAE on monday, so please get them in before Saturday/Sunday to be in with a realistic chance of being considered.
Cheers,
J

hi

hi jonny i have just sent you my cv for the supervisors job
where you working in the uae . i was there last year for al-futtaim carillion on the marina beach project and also done a alluminium plant at a place called tawella then i started on the al munnerra project also in abu dhabi but had to cut that short because of death in the family. the work force i supervised were mainly indians & pakistanis but i found the nepalese the better scaffs
i would like to get back out there if possible

cheers mate

Hi OinkOink, i don't like to call you that, but you chose it !

Anyway, i also worked for Al Futtaim, back in 1993. Not too bad an outfit, but upper management had little idea about anything to do with scaffolding. They still advertise occasionally, but things are really quiet in Dubai now and until they pick up (if they do), then jobs for Brits are going to be hard to come by i'm afraid. I can only suggest that if you keep checking the various websites, something might come up and if i hear of anything, i will post it on here as usual.

Good luck in your search.

J

Ok, i've had 11 CV's sent to me now and i've today forwarded them to Libya, so i don't need any more thank you.
My contact in Libya will contact you directly if his company are interested.
Good luck to the guys who have applied.
