SCAFFOLDING COMPETENCE CARD SCHEME EXPLAINED
CISRS publish guides for clients and contractors engaging access contractors
The Construction Industry Scaffolders Record Scheme (CISRS) has made available a free poster and video toolbox talk to help clients and contractors identify the skillset required for particular types of scaffolding applications and thereby “reduce the likelihood of error and accidents.” CISRS point out that under the CDM Regulations 2007 clients and contractors must be satisfied with the “competence of those engaged” in scaffolding.
The scheme has 8 cards which identify what an individual ‘scaffolder’ can (and cannot) do with regards to the construction/assembly of a scaffold structure. The cards range from Labourer and Trainee through to Advanced Scaffolder and Scaffold Inspector.

CISRS have launched an poster explaining the scope of work that any individual holding a CISRS card can carry out. It is an aide-memoire providing a simple to follow explanation enabling the card of an individual to be verified prior to any scaffolding works commencing. The poster can be requested directly by contacting CISRS on 0844 815 7223 or via email at enquiries@cisrs.org.uk
In addition, a 15 min online video presentation is available to watch from the CISRS website. An online test is available to take after viewing the video to ensure that the user has fully understood the content.
David Mosley, CISRS Training Scheme Manager said:
“The main reason why some scaffolds are seen erected unsafely is due to lack of training. Hopefully clients and contractors will use these two new tools to help them understand the CISRS scheme and enable them to prevent non-skilled scaffolders erecting dangerous scaffolds”
