Scaffolding collapse in town centre

Published on Wednesday 6 June 2012 16:40

WIGAN town centre has ground to a halt after scaffolding collapsed into the street injuring one man.

Police were called to Prescott Street just before 3.30pm today to find that the road was completely blocked by the scaffolding which had fallen off the face of a nearby building.

Initial reports say that one man has been hurt although his injuries are not thought to be serious. It is not yet known if he was on working on the scaffolding when it buckled or if he was a passer by.

The road has been cordoned off and is expected to be closed for quite some time while the metal work is removed safely.
