Alright lads, I am 29 and in a bit of a dilemma, live in kent and want a career change, but working in the same sort if industry . Scaffolding is all I know! Have two kids and a partner, mrs don't mind travelling. I was thinking rigs? How do I achieve this ? Thanks Carl confused scaffolder

Hi Carl,

A big step sometimes but did it myself and never regretted it. The good thing about the rigs is, your Mrs can stay where she is and you do all the travelling.

Plenty of bad things about it as well but the link below should take you to a site that will explain what you need to do to get trained then just hit the phones.

Christmas is always a good time to get a kick in as the long termers pull all sorts of strokes to get home.;)

Offshore Training - Health, Safety and Survival Training at Falck Safety - BOSIET, FOET, HUET, MIST

Being from kent you could try the Dutch sector which is sometimes an easier option to break into.i would always say get power station or refinery work before forking out on all the training expense first.
Not what it's all cracked upto be but can be great all depends on who and where you are working.loads of crawling backstabbers but they seem to be everywhere nowadays anyway.
Best of luck in whatever career choice you make

Mate of mine jacked went on the rigs ,lasted two months told no more work.Recons it's a big click, same as bluebook sites.

It's the friends you make on the way that matters, backstabbers in all walks of life, it's how you choose to deal with them. If you see it in your mind you can hold it in your hand I was once told! So gonna go for it cheers for all your input. If anyone has any more info regarding training or jobs message me. Thanks

Very philosophical Carl, give your brother Harry a phone for the advance to do your survival course. He's not doing too badly I've heard.

Seriously, good luck in your quest chasing the ever elusive pound.

Will do mate thanks

its kind of hard to deal with the backstabbers whaen youve been NRBd because of them and they are hundreds of miles away
as for harry i hope youve got a better hair cut than that waankker but ask him if i can get an old pair of that lassie flaks knickers:eek:
all the best and be safe;)

It is all about who you know and not what you know. Remember, you will be working, eating, living and maybe even having gay sex with these people on rigs... so it will be clicky...

Why not rigging for events/films etc seems a bit far fetched but there are a few good companies out there such as show force, gl events and Gemini ( I believe ) now I know it's hard to get into ( just as hard as offshore IMHO ) but well worth a punt mate it's good £££ and at least ull be home most nights good luck fella ;)
