A SCAFFOLDER with a cannabis habit had a drug farm in his mum’s house.

Police found cannabis on Stephen Breeze when they pulled him over in his car, and after searching his home, found 15 plants in a bedroom.

The 30-year-old admitted they were his and said he started growing the drug after his £150-a-week habit became too expensive.

He said his mum, who lives with her sister most of the time, had no idea he had the farm until the police raid, but has since told him off.

Breeze, of East Street, Hebburn, admitted possessing a Class B drug and being concerned in the cultivation of a Class B drug, at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Jeanette Smith, prosecuting, said: “He was pulled over by police who, when speaking to him, thought he was under the influence of something.

“Breeze said he had smoked cannabis the night before.

“The officers searched the car and found some cannabis bush and resin.

“They then went to his house, where they found a small cannabis farm – about 15 plants – in a bedroom.”

Mrs Smith added that Breeze told police he spent £150 a week on cannabis and started to grow his own to keep the cost down.

The court heard he had no previous convictions.

David Forrester, defending, said: “He is a perfectly respectable young gentleman working in his own scaffolding firm.

“He has smoked cannabis for a while. He doesn’t drink and uses it to relax after work.

“It’s a bit strange he’s chosen an illegal drug rather than a legal one, but there will be some people in his position who go their entire life without entering the legal system.”

A report from the probation service said: “His mother didn’t know he was growing the drugs in the house, and he has been told off by her.

“He is embarrassed that he was growing cannabis at her address.

“He has a new partner and because of the trouble it caused with his mum, he has reduced his intake.”

Chairman of the bench Bill Marriott said: “You are lucky the prosecution service agreed that the drugs were for your own use, otherwise this could have been much worse.”

Magistrates gave Breeze a 12-month community order with 60 hours of unpaid work, and ordered him to pay £85 costs.

They also ordered for the drugs and paraphernalia to be destroyed.

I didn't see why this was actually anything new at all, then I saw he was 30, has his own firm but still lived with his mummy. Who has given him a telling off. Naughty boy.
