Scaffold Collapse

The only problem with that is the hse will point to things like this when you are arguing that your wee job doesn't need design input.

lol I'm glad that I'm not the only one that that made snort tea from the nose!

Dont care what anyone thinks, this is one scaffold what should have had a design drawing and calculations done for it, bet it would have worked out cheaper than 15k+:sick:

I do agree, but I wonder did it collapse due to the lack of a design or due to the fittings not being done up correctly ???

Aye, that's more like it. That's another problem with these reports you don't get the full story, what exactly were the health and safety breaches?

feck me when i got married my whole world collapsed, they should think themselves lucky;)

There is no discussion, under the code this is a design job.
However, as a public access platform alone it would be almost generic as 99% are designed to the same basic 4 or 5kN/mSq loading with ( correct me if I am wrong) I think20% of the vertical load taken as acting horizontally. This is to accomodate the resonance of the people (live Load) moving in harmony. (not been to too many weddings where this has been the case)
This being the case the generic design may have been adequate.

The thing not normally taken into account in these instances is the effect of the marquee upon the scaffold. I have seen many where the Marquee is fixed to the scaffold, where are the wind loads going ???

Not too much info in the article but from what little I can see in the picture, Stair tread couplers for public access, I think not!
It looks like the scaffold has folded which would indicate lack of effective bracing.

its simple!!! it was erected by cowboys!!! it required a design however the scaffolders would design the scaffold pass the info on to the engineer just to confirm the calculations!!!! i agree it was due to severe lack of bracing!!!
