Police are investigating an allegation that hundreds of scaffolding boards were stolen from a builders’ yard on the Isle of Wight.

400 boards are believed to have been taken from the site on Gallows Hill in Arreton sometime between 11.30am on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 and 9am on Friday, May 6, 2011.

The wooden boards are described 12 foot 10 inches long and nine inches wide.

Sergeant Mark Lyth of the West Wight Safer Neighbourhoods team said: “Officers from my team have carried out enquiries at the scene and alerted members of the Country Watch rural policing database in case anyone tries to sell these stolen boards.

“Anyone who is offered similar boards in suspicious circumstances or who has information about the theft is asked to contact us or the Crimestoppers charity if they want to remain anonymous.”
